Anybody work in Downtown Atlanta? Is it awful getting there? Where would you recommend a family living? I would prefer a West side suburb, along I-85...Thoughts?

Of course it's awful during peak hours

I guess if you're into the suburb thing... Smyrna, Vinings, Brookhaven, Marietta, Alpharetta, etc would all work fine for you. Decatur is the best option, as it's very safe and practically in Atlanta, but it's not cheap.

West side is poor and meth infested. Stay in North or East Cobb County.
If you work in downtown ATL though you are fricked regardless. Traffic here sucks in every direction all the time for any reason, no reason or good reason. Good weather or bad. Sorry dude.

I'm talking about actual downtown Decatur. I live here. I know.
Decatur City Schools are also some of the best in the entire state.

What do you consider "Downtown"?
You mean anywhere with big buildings? Or actual downtown (along Marietta St and southern part of Peachtree)

That was a serial killer who has since been arrested. Downtown Decatur is almost all upper middle class and wealthy white people.

Where I'm talking about is the marietta st/peachtree st area in Atlanta. How long would it realistically take to commute from peachtree city?

If that's the case and you want to live in Peachtree City, your best bet would be to catch the MARTA train and ride it in... I think. I'm not super familiar with south of the city. I don't think most of the poster here are. Most of us live in Atlanta, Decatur, and the Northern Suburbs.

Marta only goes as far south as the airport. PTC is quite a ways away.

Brookhaven.
Hop on the MARTA every morning and be downtown in 20 min.
