Shedding a small tear here. I thought Jackson had some really good bars when I lived there in 02-03. Poet's, Time Out, Recovery Room, Last Call, Mc Bee's...several others that I have forgotten about. My only real problem with Jackson was you would talk to some chick and she would ask what high school you went too.

I remember all those places and was there the same time you were. But I don’t remember having those conversations.
Don’t forget Shuckers, the Beacon and Corner Bar (of Uneasy Rider fame).

Clinton seemed to be a good place out north of that college there. In Jackson there are places I would not be in after sunset.

Madison is a nice town but I find something about their building code restrictions off putting for some reason. It's very Stepford looking and I can never find anything because it all looks the fricking same
They apply higher masonry architecture requirements, but it's all still just strip malls behind large parking lots.

Mrs. M. and I lived in Brandon for six years. No problems.
I avoided Jackson except to go to State of Mississippi licensed liquor stores for Bourbon, Scotch, and wine. None were available in Rankin County.
Absurd.
I could drive 5 minutes from my house and buy enough beer to fill a pool but had to drive many miles and to dangerous places to get my Ardbeg.
As a lady at our church put it, "The Baptists and Methodists have staggered to the poles for years to keep Rankin dry."

I used to live outside of Jackson. I think it was called Ridgeland? Where the mall is located and I actually didnt mind it. Everything is cheap there
