what's the most ridiculous/long interview process you've been through

i'm still in an interview process I posted about around a month ago. most of my interviews I knew what was going to happen withing about 3-5 business days. Max.
This one started with email exchanges mid to late June that led to a pre-interview phone discussion that lasted about an hour.
After that came a phone interview with the owner, an HR consultant, and another employee. The next day I was asked to do a technical interview reviewing my expertise with the person I'm replacing.
The following week (last weekend) I was asked to travel down and see the offices with my family to meet the owner and his wife and have dinner.
Monday I was sent a personality profile to fill out. I've now been asked to field and shadow a support call on Friday.
It's not ridiculous by any stretch, but by far the longest and most thorough one I've ever been through.

Finished an interview on Tuesday, June 28 2011. Still waiting for the call, think it should be any day now. Hope to wrap this up sooner than later.

I once had a prospective employer ask me what my weaknesses were.

i hate stupid arse questions like that in an interview. When I get in a position to hire someone, I sure as hell wont waste their or my time with that bs.

Interviewer: What are your weaknesses?
Interviewee: Telling the truth.
Interviewer: I don't think that's a weakness.
Interviewee: I don't give a frick what you think.

I interviewed for a scholarship many, many years ago. Those frickers asked me if I planned on having kids.
If I'd had any sense, I would have said (in my best Strother Martin voice) "I'm 18 years old and applying for a scholarship to study for a year in Germany. If I'm planning on having kids, we got us a failure to communicate."

along the same lines... i hate the question of "where do you see yourself in XXX years?"
what's the right answer?
"still here"
"in your job"
"taking the best opportunity for myself at the time"
"in a gutter, left penniless by an asian hooker, but happy"

Most ridiculous, interview with Delta as a flight attendant.
They flew to me ATL (not so bad), and paid for my hotel room (very nice). The actual interview? Mother frickers wanted me to do a "cheer" at 6am in the fricking morning when I hadn't had any coffee. I just stood there. I didn't get the job. I'm not perky enough to be a flight attendant.

Illegal question. You should have called them out on it.

That's when you go the Michael Scott route and say "Sometimes I spend too much time volunteering for the needy"

Took 5 personality test just to be told by the company that "If we would hire you, you will not get along with your supervisor. Due to the personality tests we gave you, we have determined that the lowest position you could maintain is middle level management. You applying for a part time entry level help desk position would lead to conflicts with your direct supervisor. The supervisor, in that department personality dictates that he is only meant for middle level. You would see his leadership as inadequacies and become the leading power in the department. However when you graduate please think of us when you're looking for jobs" my response "I was in the military and I think I can handle stupid leadership. Not to mention I will only be there for 20hrs a week, which translates to 4 hrs a day Monday - Friday. I will not have enough interest to take over a department especially since you won't be paying me to do so. I will also not let said manger appoint me his duties in which he should be doing. Therefore I will not be seen by my "peers" as the alpha boss, so I won't be stepping on any toes." His response "By the sheer content of your reply just proves our point. Like I said we really want you to work for us, but we want you in a full time position. One where we can fully utilize your skills. If you are interested in dropping out of college, we will hire you right now. However we are also more than happy to be giving you, your first job after you graduate!" My ending response "Why don't you spend more time hiring competent leadership, rather than spending time with me to let me down "softly". If you were truly interested in hiring me in the future, you would hire me now. However obviously I'm wasting my time here, goodbye." I just get up and walk out as he tries to talk to me. This took 3 weeks, and most likely any Aggie here could guess the company I was applying for. Needless to say I was shocked that any company puts so much stock in a personality test.

For my current job in commercial insurance marketing I had a total of 8 interviews, 2 of wick my girlfriend attended, and the final interview being in Kansas City.
I also had 15 references in which they called all of them and met with 2 in person.
Eta the total process was about 7 months long.
