Finished an interview on Tuesday, June 28 2011. Still waiting for the call, think it should be any day now. Hope to wrap this up sooner than later.
probably the background check.
That usually comes after the offer...they are not free.

Took 5 personality test just to be told by the company that "If we would hire you, you will not get along with your supervisor. Due to the personality tests we gave you, we have determined that the lowest position you could maintain is middle level management. You applying for a part time entry level help desk position would lead to conflicts with your direct supervisor. The supervisor, in that department personality dictates that he is only meant for middle level. You would see his leadership as inadequacies and become the leading power in the department. However when you graduate please think of us when you're looking for jobs" my response "I was in the military and I think I can handle stupid leadership. Not to mention I will only be there for 20hrs a week, which translates to 4 hrs a day Monday - Friday. I will not have enough interest to take over a department especially since you won't be paying me to do so. I will also not let said manger appoint me his duties in which he should be doing. Therefore I will not be seen by my "peers" as the alpha boss, so I won't be stepping on any toes." His response "By the sheer content of your reply just proves our point. Like I said we really want you to work for us, but we want you in a full time position. One where we can fully utilize your skills. If you are interested in dropping out of college, we will hire you right now. However we are also more than happy to be giving you, your first job after you graduate!" My ending response "Why don't you spend more time hiring competent leadership, rather than spending time with me to let me down "softly". If you were truly interested in hiring me in the future, you would hire me now. However obviously I'm wasting my time here, goodbye." I just get up and walk out as he tries to talk to me. This took 3 weeks, and most likely any Aggie here could guess the company I was applying for. Needless to say I was shocked that any company puts so much stock in a personality test.
UCS or Reynolds & Reynolds?

Right before an offer. Make sure all is well before the investment. Why would you run it after the offer?

Bec you dont want to spend the money during the interview process...if the offer is regected, then you just wasted money.
Present the offer, wait for acceptance, then do the background.

Let's add another interesting wrinkle.
Just got a phone call that they'd like me to travel for 2 days ( they pay me for gas, food, hotel, and 2 days pay compensation)
doing the work I would be doing on a trial run.
The reasoning is that my personality profile indicated that I have great people skills and service attitude, but that I may not be assertive enough (very
valid and accurate description of me to be honest) but they want to make sure that it doesn't hurt them in terms of sales.
I totally get it though.

That's what a probationary period is for. This is really weird.

Yeah. I mean I get why. It's a 5 person company and this role is the face of the company. I'm literally the money maker from my understanding so they can't have a bad hire here.
Realistically it's a dream job for me., which is the only reason I'm still pursuing it at this point.
I love working in education but hate the stagnancy of a single school district with the same crap over and over year in and year out. This lets me stay in that without the mediocre pay and doldrums.
