Well, unfortunately, I'm not retired. I'm hoping for that at 55 tho.
But I think I did semi-misread your comment. I have had peanuts in coke before, not that I do it on the reg.

Only in north Alabama, and pretty much only for bbq chicken. Most people don't use it at home, though. In fact, most bbq restaurants only use red bbq sauce.

WTF? Nobody anywhere puts sauce on fried chicken, unless it's hot sauce.

When I was in elementary school back in the early 70's,we could buy a small cup of crushed peanuts for 3¢.
Cokes were sold separately for 25¢.
That was in Meridianville, Al.
8 grades and 8 rooms.

Brunswick and beaufort stew are 2 entirely different things. Not even close to each other. One dish South Carolina invented and is normally only found in the low country is Chicken Bog. Now that is some damn good eating.

So Beaufort Stew is the dish at question here? Isn't that basically the same thing that you cajuns do, minus the crawdads? Seems like if I were you cajuns, I wouldn't be happy with those South Carolinas stealing your recipe and claiming it as their own by omitting an ingredient or two.

Chicken bog is actually a variation of perlo. You'll generally only hear it called chicken bog in Horry, Marion, Dillon and Florence Counties (Pee Dee area). There's a higher water to rice ratio in a bog. From Georgetown County southward, the natives call it perlo and get offended if you call it a bog. They always call a bog a perlo gone bad.

Beaufort = Low Country Boil
Chicken boudain with rice is more comparable to Chicken Bog than it is to Beaufort Stew.

You're correct Perlo is a Georgetown product but Horry county ( Loris has a festival named for it) is home to Bog. Bog has more moisture ( and taste). Chicken Bog also sounds better then that Perlo prissy name.

If you ever get a chance the bog off in Loris is a great time. I live about 10 miles from Loris.

This reminds me, for you SC folks is Maurice’s bbq still a thing? Very bizarre rebel themed joint but I thought their bbq was awesome. Yes, mustard base.

I personally think his brother Melvin, in Charleston, is better. In Columbia Little Pigs and Doko Smoke are better than Piggy Park.

A friend of mind liked that place. I went once and didn't need to go back.
Doko Smoke, in Blythewood, is one of the best " unknown " barbeque stops around.

the best BBQ spots are always the ones that look the shittiest
There's this pretty famous one in Raleigh called "The Pit"
It's well known and always on TV and because of all the fame has gotten pretty "boughie" nicer sit down place, has a full bar and everything.
It's not THAT great.
Even being a North Carolinian I have to admit I like the mustard based sauce far better than ours (Vinegar based)
There are some hole in walls in Lexington NC that will blow your socks off.
