Chapel Hill, NC and Charlottesville, VA are two of my favorites.

-Charlottesville, VA is a great college town. The Corner is a really cool area.
-Chapel Hill, NC is nice.
-Boone, NC is great if you love the outdoors or if you’re a hippie. One of my favorite places to visit.
-Athens, OH, much like Athens, GA, knows how to fricking party.

Notre Dame was FANTASTIC, the people were amazing and generous at tailgates
and don't tell Tillman I said this, but Clemson was always a good time

South Bend, on the other hand is terrible. I was disappointed.
The tailgate setup was huge, and like I said, the people were stellar
I will be at the Notre Dame game in Athens, and I plan to do my part to make sure that a few of their fans leave with the same good feelings about us as hosts as I had (and everyone I was with and spoke to had)
Did not stay after the game to witness the party scene or bars, we were staying in Chicago

Not sure if serious. I lived in Macon for about a year, and it blows. Maybe I never found the college vibe there.
I like Macon, I've had fun every time I've been. There's a college there, it's called Mercer. What's the problem?
I listed Birmingham as a college town, but you call out Macon?

For those not liking South Bend, when were you there? I was up there in the 70's and it was fun. Was up there a few years ago and it was OK, but then I am much older and it was a quieter crowd.

When I was Asheville there were tons of college kids partying downtown. The town has a youthful energy about it. I had a blast there. You do know UNC Asheville is there, right?

I visited South Bend a few years ago. I was surprised at how bad and run down the town around the university looked. The campus itself was very nice but their stadium kind of sucked and the entire area of South Bend appeared like it kinda peaked in the 70’s. The people I met were sorta rude as well. All in all I didn’t enjoy my time spent visiting there. I appreciate their history and campus architecture which is why I ranked them where I did.

Living next to UofA (Arizona), it has more of a 'college town' vibe.
Frog n Firkin on a fall Saturday afternoon is about as college town vibe as you can get.
College towns I have visited and recommend:
Bloomington, IN
Chapel Hill, NC
Greenville, NC
Provo, UT

Not sure why people are down voting you.
Can anyone name the UNC-A mascot off the top of their head? Do they even have sports?
Is Asheville a fun small-mid size town to visit? Hell yeah. That doesn't make it a college town though.

Stats College, PA for the Bama-Penn State game. I was in HS unfortunately, but it looked fun.
Madison, Wisconsin is on another level. Place is fun as hell.

It's a fairly small college, and I never really found the college Hangouts. I didn't really live or work close to the campus though. There's also a women's college there - Wesleyan. It's only a couple thousand students. Neither college really defined the city that I saw.

All I can speak for was when I was there. Many of the college aged kids I hung out with in the breweries, etc. said they were students at UNC Asheville. I know it’s a very small school but there was not a shortage of college student partying while I was there. It’s kind of like Charleston, SC. There was a ton of college kids partying and the ones I talked to said they went to the College of Charleston. I compare both of Asheville and Charleston as college towns because of my experiences in each. I know neither is one you would classify as being defined by their local universities but both had a youthful vibe and I met tons of college students in both.

COC is twice as big and right next to King Street.
UNC Asheville is located away from downtown Asheville.
