I would like to officially apologize to you, because I'm certain one of my ancestors cracked a joke on one of yours -- then helped that ancestor with the railroad since my roots go back to Ireland.

I for one think we should stop talking about slavery in America and focus on slavery that still exists in the world.

Well that's a tad hyperbolic. I don't agree with him in most cases, but that doesn't mean he is wrong about every major issue discussed. He makes factual, rational remarks about the religion, and Affleck has an epic melt that frankly doesn't even hold any weight. Affleck completely missed the point and lost his cool

Disagree. Racism is not disappearing. It is changing. It is moving from the notion of "black skin = inferior" to "black skin = thug"

I'm only in my 30's. And within my loving grandmothers' lifetimes, black people have been literally terrorized by whites. Men hung from trees, castrated, drug behind vehicles, churches bombed, dogs unleashed on them for no reason; hell, my mom had a white girl ask her when her class integrated in the 8th grade if black people had tails.

I said all that to say this: stop being so damned short sighted and look at the big picture. White folks have been at least as violent as blacks. Positive change takes time and more importantly education, something that has been and still continues to be denied to a good portion of black people. So maybe you should use the next opportunity with your niece to educate her that not all people who look alike are. Does it not upset you when outsiders stereotype Southerners? Is it fair? Have you done anything to earn that scorn?

Since you were so specific, can you explain what exactly you would consider do be figurative terrorism by white people? Would it possibly involve video games such as Grand Theft Auto if they had existed back then? Perhaps drawing mean pictures of black people in secret without showing them? I'm intrigued at the possibilities.

As poor as my recent decendents have been, I don't assume my close ancestors owned any slaves, although I know very little about my ancestry.

I'm just glad it was 150 years ago and that our countrymen have learned that's not the way to treat others.

What about black people who descend from slave owner(s)?

They have mixed feelings about it.

Was it?

I stopped watching his flicks once I realized what a fricktard he is in real life .... positioning himself for a run at political office probably with his eye on the White House one day.

He'll probably ask Matt Damon to be his sidekick VP.

How scared are you of the evil leftists? I bet your favorite Glenn Beck was the crazy paranoid version.

Are we talking about a specific instance of slavery or just slavery in general?
It has existed in one form or another since we were exploded into existence or created on the worktable by the big guy (depending on what you believe)

So you think mostly black schools have equal resources and offer as good an education as mostly white schools?

I didn't say a word of that.

I simply asked how you figured that black kids were denied an education. I'm asking a legitimate question. Please present your argument.

Ok. I see you took me literal when I said denied an education. I should have said denied an quality education, or at least one equal to their peers across the tracks.

OK, again, how are the educations unequal? Do you believe there is a difference in resources, a la less money being spent on a per pupil basis? Or what do you contend is the root source of the disparity?
