quote:I walked out there too and texted everyone back at the castle that it looked like a war zone and they needed to get out here and help. A bunch sent back "LOL," and "over exaggerating" and when I got back to the house I flipped shite. We emptied the freezers and cooked all the meat on the grill in the courtyard and took it to people.
15th and macfarland looked like a warzone. Truly terrifying

Blizzard of 1993. It was March. Had my grandmother, aunt, and two cousins along with my immediate family (parents, and two siblings) stuck at our cabin outside of Chattanooga. Luckily my parents had a wood burning stove and a ton of canned food. We were trapped for 3 or 4 days before my parents and neighbors were able to chainsaw through all the pine trees blocking the road. My parents said it wasn't bad but they were starting to get pretty worried if we werent able to get out of there in the next few days.
And the Tuscaloosa tornado.

The Great Ice Storm of 2009...
Seconded. Went two weeks without power, but at least had a generator for part of it.
What made it worse was earlier in that school year (September 08) we had a wind storm (remnants of Hurricane Ike) that also did a ton of damage and knocked power out for a solid two weeks. The temperatures were at least tolerable then. During the ice storm it was below freezing the whole way through.

Ice storms just suck. The 2003 ice storm was much worse in Lexington. 2 inches on everything. Ripped the electric mast out of the side of my house. Two weeks, no power.
I went through the eyewall of Hurricane Elena in 85 on the Miss coast and had the misfortune of being trapped on St. Thomas while on business when Marilyn hit in 1995. Geez, there were bodies all over Charlotte Amalie harbor after that.

I was wondering if people would see that. Nope.

"Hurricane Elvis" in 2003. We had straight line winds reach the level of a category 2 hurricane. I was in a truck on the bridge over the Mississippi River, and a semi turned on its side from the wind. We were without power for a week, but others were out even longer. Plus the temperatures were around 90 degrees.

Tornado went close to our house and knocked down 2 pine trees outside my window. I slept through it. I lived half a mile from school and we got a week off because it destroyed a lot of it.

April 27th
Huddled in the center of our apt at the junction of Hackberry and Hargrove rd. Held onto my wife and dog. Only time in my life that I thought it was my time to go. Holy crap, it still makes my heart race to think about it.
