Important for me to add that Memphis loves the Grizzlies, even if they suck. Lot of pride for their team.

Alabama Gulf Coast;
NFL - Saints... big time
MLB - Braves mostly
NBA - Nobody, really. Some Pelicans
NHL - No one

I live in Virginia (not NoVa)and there is not nearly as much support for the Redskins as you would think. If I had to guess I would say they are the most popular team but it's probably a plurality and not a majority and not much passion either. There is even less interest, if any, for the Nats, Bullets and Caps.

Everywhere I've lived Black people are either Cowboy or Steeler fans and I've always lived somewhere with an NFL team nearby. It's bizarre and they aren't shy about it either.

I think it would easily be the Preds.

And for MLS, it would be Atlanta United.

No one cares about the NHL (in small cities) unless they’re doing well.
I saw it in NC for the Canes.

One thing that amazes me here is they genuinely care about all their pro teams.
I guess it’s like college football for us.

The giants and jets stink, yet are all the talk.
The Knicks and rangers stink. Yet get a lot of talk.
Mets stink. Get all of the talk.

Yankees are good and always have been since I’ve been here so I don’t have much idea of how they act during bad Yankees seasons

Do you live in a Mets area or a Yankees area?

I live in Tribeca.
Realistically they're both.

I'd say the real "mets area" is Queens and the "yankees area" is the Bronx.

But NYC is pretty large so everyone is a fan of everyone as well. There are literally team specific bars for every team in the city.

You definitely see more Yankees hats, but that's more of a fashion statement I feel now days than someone actually being a fan of the Yankees.
When you see a Mets hat, odds are they are actually a fan.

So the whole “Mets, Jets, Nets” thing isn’t really true then. Interesting.

What do you mean?

they're a fan of those 3?

yea that's more for the old timers i'd guess.

Mets are Jets fans, giants are yankees, some old guy once told me that because the Giants played in Yankee Staidum and Mets in Shea.

But now days it's all over the place.

Nets fans also don't exist. Even in Brooklyn.
You go to one of those games (especially KNicks-Nets) and the crowd is Majority Knicks fans.

They shock me the most among any team here. The Rangers used to be good. Like 2-3 years ago, a playoff team. The knicks are just awful and people still pack MSG for those games.

That was a rule of thumb about how fans of the three franchises were linked or something, I dunno, never lived in NYC. Guess it’s fallen by the wayside now with people and teams moving around.

The Rangers thing was interesting, figured NYC would be solid Rangers, who do they root for then? The Islanders? Nobody likes the Islanders.

No they are Rangers fans. That's the hockey team.

What I was saying is it's wild that with the Knicks the team is always bad and they always show up. You don't see that in Charlotte with the Hornets.

Long Island is Islanders, and they now play their games in Brooklyn occasionally (did for a few years before that) so they are trying to get them to be Islanders fans, but it's not that prevalent.

Don’t the Knicks have a longer history than the Hornets? Have they won stuff?

I know nothing about the NBA.

Born and raised in East TN, lived there for 25 years.

Arizona almost 6 years. Now in Tucson, you get a weirrrrd mix of Cardinals, Raiders, Chargers and Cowboys fans.

The UofA and ASU rivalry is cute to watch. But it pales in comparison to any SEC rivalry.

TL;DR: West coast sporting entertainment is just different. Fair weather as frick.

Atlanta Braves

Growing up in the late 90's/early 2000's the Braves were the team to follow in my area of Metro Atlanta. The Falcons have caught on recently with some of the success we've seen under Arthur Blank, but if the Falcons are doing poorly (like this year) some of the fans in Cobb tend to sink away.

Even if the Braves aren't good, so many people in my area still love going to the games and hanging around and watching them on TV. Placing SunTrust Park in Cobb County was a homerun decision by the Braves.

I know nothing about the NBA.

yes of course they do.

I think it's really just a major market thing.

Charlotte doesn't give a frick about the Panthers or Hornets unless they're good.

people can argue with me all they want but it's true.

but I guess that's because they're both expansion teams.

if the Panthers had a season like the Giants and Jets did this year, the stadium would be literally empty.

It wasn't that at Metlife this year.

In football, SW Alabama likes the Saints. Most of the rest of the state likes the Falcons.
In baseball, the Braves, when they're winning.
In basketball, Mobilians are bandwagoners...whoever's winning.
In hockey, no one follows hockey.
