That's awesome. Sharks fascinate me but not enough to make me want to do what the idiot outside the cage is doing

I use videos like that for relief of constipation.

Yeah there is video and a whole show about it on Discovery Channel. A group of whale watchers saw the whole thing.
Turns out the orcas ate the sharks, but only the liver, which is high in nutrients and oil. Given the targeted nature of what they ate, it would appear to be learned behavior and not necessarily new.

My luck I would be out south pass hooked up with a good tuna and get him right up to the back of the boat and as I looked over the side that shark would come up and jump in the boat with me.

Biggest? Looks like a fully grown adult. One tagged off Cape Cod was quite massive and around 6000 lbs. It was tracked up and down the Gulf Stream and into the Gulf of Mexico.

I will go to Isla de Guadalupe and dive in those cages with those sharks.
I will.
I will.

Actually I think they said in the show that the shark was pregnant. I wonder how big a baby great white is at birth?

About the size of a basset hound.

There's a dentist in the United States just ready to hang that thing on his wall.

I didn't know this at the time I watched the show on TV, but the liver of a great white occupies most of its innards. So, "only the liver" is basically most of the shark's body.
ETA: Correction, it's about a third of the body...
quote:
Shark livers are formidable fat-packs: the liver is the predator’s largest organ, composing almost a third of its body weight and putting it at about 1,000 lbs.

but only the liver
Had no idea Great Whites favored fava beans and Chianti.

And so then I had to know why its liver is so big.
