Anyone watched part of the 3rd Season that takes place in Arkansas ? Not very realistic, the people are not very redneckish. They nailed season one in Louisiana.

But it’s in northwest Arkansas, right? Completely different world from the rest of the state.

As someone who grew up in 80s-90s Arkansas, it’s spot on except for everyone had nicer houses.

The people of NWA are practically cosmopolitan compared to everyone else from every state in the South East.

Can't help it, we are just born better. Sorry, sucks to suck.

Season 1 was the shite...how can you top some McConaughey and Harrelson.

The Bayou setting always gives people the creeps.

And yet Deliverance, the epitome of creepy, was filmed in GA...

Mahershala Ali is how.

And the show is 100% spot on. It was filmed entirely here and uses a ton of local talent from extras to production to supporting roles.

You're as likely to meet a native NW Arkansas resident with a neutral Midwestern accent as you are to meet one with a deep "redneck" accent. Any southerner who has been to Fayetteville knows this. It isn't a new phenomenon.

Besides, WTF are you talking about? Lucy is a white trash whore. Tom is a redneck who works at a machine-shop. To me, the portrayal is pretty realistic of the mix of accents and cultural categories you'd find in the Fayetteville area in 1980. You definitely have "hillbilly types" but also just normal people.

Even in 1980, NWA was home to a big state university and several emerging national corporations and resultant millionaires. It wasn't Dogpatch.

Hell you still find those types of people in NW Arkansas to this day. They make up a small amount of the population but they'll probably always be here. Not to mention that by now a lot of the "hillbillies" are second and third generation Walmart executives who might sound country as can be but are rich off their butts.

I tip my hat to the folks behind the series, they managed to capture the mix of cultures that is NW Arkansas fairly well.

I haven't seen it yet, but I've heard that West Finger is in the story. Which is obviously meant to be West Fork. That's getting out near where I live.

When you get out of town a little ways you still run across my kinda folk. There's plenty of hillbillies around.
