Thoughts on new Star Wars?

I thought it was good, but noticed many have been critical of it because it's very similar to episode IV but with different characters. Also too many coincidences and some stupid humor (I liked the new droid, but the "you got a boyfriend" line was modern and stupid)
Also, I expected Kylo Ren to be able to over power Rey when they were near the edge. The bad guys were clearly modeled after the third reich. Rey was fun to watch too. Overall, again I think it was a good movie, but many things could have been better IMO

Was very good, very well made and the dialogue/acting was much better than any of the other movies.
My main complaint is that Rey displayed literally no flaws. I get the whole, "wanting a strong female lead" thing, but it was a bit over the top. She goes from random scavenger to being able to use the jedi mind trick almost instantly... never mind that she thought the jedi were a myth and had no prior knowledge of jedi powers/techniques. Then beating a trained dark Jedi in a lightsaber battle?
Other than those things i really enjoyed it though

Those aspects were put in to her character to make you think about what her story was prior to the movie IMO.

It was the perfect way to set the tone for the new era of Star Wars movies we're going to get IMO.
Also, this. I think it's fairly clear (especially after reading the book) that she had training and knowledge of the force and then had her memory erased.

It was pretty "meh". Two main actors were actually very good..Daisy Ridley is very easy on the eyes and John Boyega was surprisingly good..but i grew tired of the vague/shallow story line, cheesy jokes and laughs scattered throughout the movie to make sure the audience didn't fall asleep ( i guess they figured people in 2015 don't have very long attention spans). I'm not a huge star wars fan but lines and overall storyline was mildly corny at best. And even the bad guy wasn't very scary. JMO.

I meant to say the main actors were good but a lot of corny lines and vague storyline

I definitely think that is plausible. If that's the case, perhaps she could be Luke's daughter (perhaps this was kept secret from everyone) and she had her mind wiped and was dumped on Jakku for her protection. I would have WAY less of a problem with her overwhelming badassness if this were the case.

I love Star Wars so I give it an 11/10

It was the second best in the series behind Empire IMO. The acting was much better than the originals. Boyega and Ridley are just naturally better actors than Hamill and Fisher, and Ford was the best actor from the originals. Oscar Isaac is one of the best in Hollywood right now and officially a superstar after this movie (if he wasn't already).
The only things that dragged it down were a worn out plot and how unintimidating all the villains are. Compare Vader, Tarkin and Palpitine from the originals to Ren, Hux and Snoke. It's not even close IMO.

I took my 8 year old son, otherwise I may not have ever seen it (I still have not seen episodes 1 - 3 all the way through, but have seen parts of them)
my thoughts?
stupid and disappointing - SPOILER ALERT ---
the chick being on a backwards assed planet, Hans being hunted down by mercenaries AND the rebels flying off to destroy a death star?
I mean, with the bazillions of dollars they had to produce this fricker, they couldn't come up with some new story lines?
really? this movie was just dumb as shite

Did not like this movie. So frickin' derivative they should've just rebooted the whole franchise and/or pretended it was an alternate universe or something.
I mean, we were predicting the dialogue before it happened right down to the trash compactor joke from Solo.
And that whole death star scene was like they were trolling us it was so exactly like the first two Death Star scenes. Even that line from Solo to the effect of "there's always a way to blow those things up (chuckle chuckle)" felt like a troll.
And how about fat Luke Skywalker? What a p*ssy! He trains his sister's and best friend's kid so well the kid turns into Darth lite. So what does he do to rectify the situation? He flees to New Zealand, apparently.
Thanks for nothing fat Luke!
I mean, I could go on but that movie sucks. And I love Star Wars and desperately wanted it to be good.

TR-8R was my favorite

I liked it a lot, particularly the first half of it. It's the first even decent Star Wars to come out in my lifetime. Yes it is similar to A New Hope, but it also has some differences. Some people weren't going to be happy no matter what it was.

I saw it in 3D and wished I had just viewed the regular version.
As to the movie, it is like they just recycled the original from 1977 and put a chick and a black dude in place of the 2 original white dudes. The rolling round version droid looked like the cheesy robot updated from the cheesy Disney movie "The Black Hole" and is a good indication of Disney's future in the movie business.
Disney sold off their quality mid level movies to focus on big budget and low budget as they provided the best ROI even if the movies were not actually good or well made.
You can spend all kinds of money on special effects but hiring a single good writer will run circles around it, sadly Disney will not hire good writers. Even with his limited screen time, Mark Hammil still can't act his way out a paper bag and Harrison Ford was probably the smartest one for having them kill him off before the next movie got worse.

Did not really like it. Just a PC New Hope. Potentially violated canon a few times depending on how things shake out later.
