The fatality rates by German state are all very low (ranging from zero up to .77%), but it is interesting also that the states in the South and West of the country have a relatively much higher fatality rate compared to the states in the North and East.... its a 3x difference.

The old Prussian territory appears to be nearly immune to the virus with fatality rates near zero. In the states of Berlin, Schleswig-Holstein, Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia, Hamburg, and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.... all of which are in the north and east of the country... we're talking about a contiguous area that covers nearly 17 million in population... there are only a combined 10 deaths.

The rest of the country has 186 fatalities.

Much of this territory borders Poland, and they too have had very few fatalities thus far relative to other countries in Europe.... only 14 total.

Check out the stats of the different regions of Switzerland. German speaking regions have much lower fatality rates than French speaking which in turn have lower fatality rates than Italian speaking.

Yes that was my post from this morning, the follow-up was the one about the German states.

Reposting so it’s not buried at the bottom of the page

The epidemiologist Neil Ferguson who was behind the study that caused much of the shutdowns has now backed significantly off his original predictions.

UK went from 500,000 deaths to 20,000.

LINK

Essentially, he says they underestimated the infectiousness of the virus and more people have already had it than originally anticipated. He thinks the UK currently has enough capacity to handle the amount of patients they will see.

This is good news, however reversing from 500,000 to 20,000 doesn't give me hope he knows what he's doing. That's quite a change to his model.

That’s the study everybody referenced for why this disease was so dangerous. And it was one of the main justifications for a lot of the shutdowns.

Now I’m not saying this means the virus isn’t dangerous but I do think it means a lot of the panic and talk of shutdowns for months was overblown.

I don't know. The explosion of new cases and new fatalities around the world is a bit concerning. I mean just look at the USA:

Saturday: 46 deaths
Sunday: 113 deaths
Monday: 141 deaths
Tuesday: 225 deaths
Wednesday: 247 deaths

This is a skyrocketing pace that at this point is out-pacing Western Europe.

Western Europe... about 15% more populated than the USA but relatively close in the number of people.... as a whole started seeing similar daily death totals back on March 5th. On that date, Italy had 41... France had 3... Spain had 1.. Switzerland had 1... and the UK had 1.... for a total of 47.

Four days later, daily fatalities totaled just 128.... again the US went from 46 to 247 in the same amount of time.

Fast-forward 17 days later and Western Europe is now at 1,916 fatalities for the day, and there are still numbers left to come in out of Spain, Germany and the UK.

We're on pace to be seeing 2,000 daily deaths here in the States in 2-3 weeks. Unless some type of a treatment is developed that drastically minimizes the symptoms, I'm afraid we're heading in that direction.

It was one of them, and it may have been used by online pundits to justify the shutdowns, but I guarantee you the U.S. has its own models that its using and weighing appropriately.

The danger of the disease is now being confirmed by medical practitioners, as well.

There have been no sports events.

No concerts.

Public gatherings pretty much highly discouraged.

It wasn't overblown by any stretch of the imagination, we just dealt with it by quarantining over 3 billion people, which most of us in the thread have been saying is the best way to do it.

I don't know why you guys insist on being idiotic. If we ran "business as usual" the numbers would be significantly higher. America just hit #1 for cases in the world (#2 unofficially since China is lying about their figures).

You’re guaranteeing all test are accurate and everyone has been tested for antibodies.

Death toll keeps climbing every day (last week we were averaging 1,000, the last few days we're averaging 2,000+ worldwide) and America just hit #1 for cases in the world.

Paranoia is appropriate at the time, especially for caring for the elderly and those who have, for instance, asthma. Much like my wife.

So I'd appreciate it if you inbred stupid fricks would stay home and stop trying to downplay everything while both cases and deaths rise.
