Those chronic illness deaths are often self inflicted and based upon the unhealthy american life style. We are talking about something totally different, an acute illness that lead to suffocating to death in a rapid manner. Only an idiot cant tell the difference.

On Thursday, Democratic Governor of New York Andrew Cuomo publicly questioned the full-quarantine measures his state implemented nearly two weeks ago.

“We closed everything down. That was our public health strategy,” Cuomo said, as reported by the New York Post. “If you re-thought that or had time to analyze that public health strategy, I don’t know that you would say ‘Quarantine everyone.’”

quote:

“I don’t even know that that was the best public health policy,” the governor admitted. “Young people then quarantined with older people, [it] was probably not the best public health strategy. The younger people could have been exposing the older people to an infection.”

quote:

“I am deeply concerned that the social, economic and public health consequences of this near total meltdown of normal life — schools and businesses closed, gatherings banned — will be long lasting and calamitous, possibly graver than the direct toll of the virus itself,” Katz argued. “The stock market will bounce back in time, but many businesses never will. The unemployment, impoverishment and despair likely to result will be public health scourges of the first order.”

But I guess it’s just a rantard opinion to question quarantine

One way to look at where the US is possibly headed is to compare to Western Europe. Just as the US is made up of many states, in many ways Western Europe is similar except that it is made up of many countries.

Starting with the day both hit their 50th fatality, here are the total fatalities compare by day between the US and Western Europe:

Day 1:
W. Europe- 54
USA- 57

Day 2:
W. Europe- 83
USA- 68

Day 3:
W. Europe- 112
USA- 86

Day 4:
W. Europe- 159
USA- 109

Day 5:
W. Europe- 217
USA- 150

Day 6:
W. Europe- 262
USA- 206

Day 7:
W. Europe- 409
USA- 255

Day 8:
W. Europe- 537
USA- 301

Day 9:
W. Europe- 716
USA- 414

Day 10:
W. Europe- 956
USA- 555

Day 11:
W. Europe- 1,200
USA- 780

Day 12:
W. Europe- 1,528
USA- 1,027

Day 13:
W. Europe- 1,795
USA- 1,295

That's through yesterday for the USA. Europe is now 12 days ahead of us from this standpoint. Based on the first 13 days starting with the day each saw their 50th fatality, the USA has done a much better job of minimizing fatalities. In these 13 days analyzed, on average, the daily fatalities increased 34.4% each day in Western Europe while they increased 29.9% each day in the USA. That might seem very close, but spread out over 13 days its the difference in 500 total fatalities.

So that's where the USA stands today. Here is how Western Europe continued for the next 12 days:

Day 14: 2,326
Day 15: 2,788
Day 16: 3,406
Day 17: 4,139
Day 18: 4,964
Day 19: 6,053
Day 20: 7,416
Day 21: 8.711
Day 22: 10,205
Day 23: 12,108
Day 24: 13,945
Day 25: 16,123

There does not appear to be any sign of slowing down. Italy might be close to flattening out, but there are zero signs so far of fatalities beginning to drop. Spain will likely pass Italy in total fatalities by the time this is over. And the Netherlands and the UK appear to be on pace to be in the same spot as Italy is now within a week to 10 days.

+200 more than yesterday for Italy regarding deaths is insane.

Also, to whoever said that self-quarantine and no quarantine would be virtually the same -- please don't reproduce.

Yeah Italy had 919 fatalities just today.... the numbers from Italy continue to be mind-boggling.

This is going to last months if not a full year.... there are so many other countries further behind, but evidence suggests that the outbreak is going to take off pretty much everywhere no matter the climate.

Turkey had 17 fatalities today (23% increase from yesterday), bringing their total to 92.

Brazil has had 15 fatalities so far today (19% increase from yesterday), bringing their total to 92.

Morocco has 12 fatalities so far today (over 100% jump in fatalities), bringing their total to 21.

Dominican Republic doubled their total fatalities today, jumping from 10 to 20.

Indonesia had 9 more.
Philippines had 9 more.
Egypt had 6 more.

These climates range from arid to tropical. There is no evidence that this virus won't spread in certain temperatures or climates.

And most of these other countries are just getting started. Eventually it will spread into Africa and it may take months for everything to run its coarse.

We already bought a ton of pasta/soup/tuna and everything we're going to need -- Mexico City (Mexico in general) is probably going to be fighting this well into November at the rate we're going.

More troublesome is that almost a fourth of America's total deaths happened in one day -- yesterday.

4 weeks ago: 61 cases, 0 deaths
3 weeks ago: 265 cases, 14 deaths
2 weeks ago: 1,899 cases, 41 deaths
1 week ago: 15,905 cases, 208 deaths
Right now: 95,174 cases, 1,451 deaths

Here are the Top 15 worst-hit countries in terms of Total Deaths per 1 Million People:

1. Italy- 191.7
2. Spain- 157.0
3. Netherlands- 50.4
4. France- 46.3
5. Belgium- 44.3
6. Switzerland- 40.2
7. Iran- 32.8
8. United Kingdom- 20.7
9. Sweden- 14.5
10. Portugal- 13.7
11. Denmark- 13.3
12. Austria- 12.0
13. Ireland- 9.3
14. United States- 7.9
15. Germany- 6.7

**Not included above are countries with a population under 1 Million, nor is China considered since their numbers are fake

I don't want to turn this into a political discussion... but for all the criticism that has been thrown at the lack of preparation here in the United States, we sure do seem to be fairing better than most of these European countries which are always touted to be so further advanced in terms of their health care systems.

I wonder why our media only wants to report the rate of COVID-19 testing on a per capita basis while they simultaneously only want to talk about the number of cases and number of fatalities in actual numbers not calculated per capita?

There are obviously things every country would do different in hindsight, but as bad as things are here, so far we are fortunate compared to many other countries which are being absolutely devastated. Let's hope we can flatten the curve and not end up with fatality rates like Italy and Spain.

They have a anti-American political agenda to support.

But you went ahead and did it anyway didn't you? Your statement is completely meaningless without further analysis, like the fact that many parts of Europe are further along than we are, and there are larger concentrations of the elderly in parts of Europe. For example, Italy, which has the oldest population in Europe. The median age in Italy is almost a decade older than the US. Everyone in Europe will have access to healthcare because they're all covered, and they do not have to worry about being wiped out by healthcare debt, unlike many in this country. In fact, most will not even get a bill and if they do it is a pittance compared to what Americans get.

1. We can easily draw the comparisons by the amount of people infected and the amount of deaths.

We have over 60,000 people infected but ~8,000 less deaths than Italy.

That can obviously change, but that is quite an encouraging number. We would have to be losing a ton more to even come close to the failure that is Italy.

2. Old age is a decent argument, maybe for Spain, too. (We have double their infected and twice as few deaths.)

3. M4A/Universal Healthcare/Single Payer is actually bad in a Pandemic. China has it, Italy has it, Spain has it. China is obviously lying about their numbers, but the fact is: Going to the doctor or hospital right now is a seriously bad idea.

HAIs are usually spread best throughout hospitals.

Now, our healthcare system might not be the reason behind it, it could also be that most of the country is sparsely populated (the hardest hit area just happens to be the most densely populated area in America). Being spread out might have helped us considerably.

And as an addendum: don't trust the numbers coming from Asian countries, a lot of them are not accurately reporting their infections.
