frick Cancer

(CNN)David Bowie, whose incomparable sound and chameleon-like ability to reinvent himself made him a pop music fixture for more than four decades, has died. He was 69.

Bowie died Sunday after an 18-month battle with cancer, his publicist Steve Martin told CNN.

"David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family's privacy during their time of grief," said a statement posted on his official social media accounts.

If it was pudgy white Duke I would have been worried.

Sad day for entertainment. One of the most iconic artist in the last half century leaves us. Sad as it is, we all know David Bowie actually got out there and lived.

Goddamn this one hurts.

He was never on my list of favorites, but as I sit here at work listening to Bowie, he probably should have been. One of those quiet influences on my life and tastes in music. So brilliant.

I expect not many Aggies are into David Bowie. Garth Brooks is more their speed.

You are truly a super star if you can get Steve Martin to be your publicist.

he complimented the guy just said it wasn't his fave music. no need to attack.

i sort of feel the same way, sad he's dead b/c he's a classic entertainer/artist that's been popular since i was a child but i'm not a huge bowie fan either.

Bowie was a genius. He was definitely out there - but he was a genius. Very unique. His lyrics were, at times, incredible - especially when meshed with his music and the way he integrated every available form of making sound with his words.

My favorite Bowie songs ...

Changes

Young Americans

Kooks (Reminds me of my first child ... my ex-wife used to sing this to my baby daughter all the time.)

Under Pressure (Official Video) ... he co-wrote this one with Queen, and it was a duet of sorts although most people don't recognize Bowie on the vocals.

Golden Years

Always thought this was what influenced the Talking Heads

Young Americans

The brass on here reminds me of later night show soundtracks

A lot of his stuff was before my time, but I still love it. Hell of a talent. Entertained right to the end. The Lazarus video that came out a few days ago... wow.
