I don't like snakes but leave the non-poisonous ones alone when I find them in the yard.

I don't mess with snakes but they do freak me out.
Cheese, I get what you are saying but I think most people having a fear of snakes is rationale because they can absolutely kill you. Snake bite deaths aren't exactly uncommon. I have known several people bitten by poisonous snakes and are lucky to be alive.

Yeah, I get that part but folks I knew growing up had to go to church to get snake bitten.
On a general note, I agree about the ones that can kill humans with a bite but my interactions with them in the wild had been live and let live. Staying calm in the wild is probably better than screaming like a little girl and getting said snake more stressed out where it will bite you.

Snakes are good for people ... without snakes, rodents would become unmanageable and we would all die of the black plague.
I wish people would stop randomly killing snakes.
I've reached under hens before, while collecting eggs in the dark some early mornings ... and found those damn egg suckers under there coiled-up keeping warm. Never got used to that - it'll sure make you snatch your hand back in a hurry though.
People need to quit swerving to run-over snakes.
