Sitting in an office by yourself all day isn't much better. At least I can close my door though when I need to buckle down and get some work done.

preach brother! oh my goodness i work in a giant open room with no windows at all and dont even have my own space (ie a cubicle). the most irritating is that you cannot shut the door and keep about the incessant babbling idiots who have no idea noone wants to hear anything they have to say
i wish you luck with your narrating cubicle mate.

Couldn't work in one. Got a nice office, very private.

Right now I share an office with two other coworkers. And people have to come through my office to get to theirs. The one counselor usually leaves her office to see kids (has a little cart she rolls around from class to class), but the other has a constant stream of kids coming in and out. It drives me crazy.

Luckily, the guy I share an office with has no problem slamming the door when the inane conversations in the main office area start getting more stupid than usual

ETA: And that creepy idiot better back off your desk, I swear to God...

I'm working at a small table in a small room with no windows with 6 others including a Brazilian, guy from Dubai, a philipino, a new Yorker, and a Cajun for 12-14 hours a day for the next 3 months. People coming in and out all day . It kind of sucks

I've got a nice office with a conference table and a bear hide on the wall. I can make it soundproof if shut both doors.

Some days I do not mind just rambling on with him, but I have to use work as an escape some times. Having two boys with autism at home puts a major strain on you, and it's hard to find peace while at home. When I'm not actually doing work (which is about half of the time), I like to put on some music and destress.
Just found out that the dog rescue lady has laryngitis. That will help me get a little peace the rest of the week.
Thanks and good luck to you as well

I spent five years in a cubicle with a Fortune 500 company. I was fortunate to be in sales and could get out of the office a lot. I hated every minute of that shite. Never again. Never again.

Having a private office is the best part of my job. Doesn't make up for the lack of benefits and low pay though.

Sitting in a cubicle does suck. Luckily, my salary more than makes up for the inconvenience.

This. --And the fact that when I was in the military we would have loved to have something like a shitty cubicle. It doesn't bother me to much

I was making well over $100K in sales. If you hate it, you hate it. Making a lot less than that now, but much happier. No way I'll ever do the big corporation and cubicle again.

Air travel sucks the worst. It is over glorified by those that don't do it. The daily flyers are some of the saddest and most depressed people you will ever meet. Divorce rate is very high and relationships with kids are very hard. Don't do it.
I travel a lot but regionally, I'll drive 6 hours at 8 pm to be in my own bed at night.
Industrial equipment sales

I'm on a big floor with no cubicles. Just lines of desks. Probably 80-90 people on the floor. It's the only thing I've ever done and I can pretty much block out anything and everything.

I've never been in a cubicle. I have had an office with no door at one point, next to the ladies room.

Let me retract that statement a little. I mean like once a month, maybe once every two months. I'm open to trying different things whilst I'm young.

This x 1000.
I had a job with about 50% air travel for 3 years. Damn near gave me a nervous breakdown. I became that guy who yells at the rental car place, and made room-service people miserable because everything had to be "just so". I lived on the road, and if I was uncomfortable I'd take it out on people.
