Gotta be honest, you sound a hell of a lot like the crowd that said: "Don't resist arrest, and the cops won't choke you out" after the Eric Garner death.

Irony, thy name is Stonehog.

It's not ironic because those two situations are completely different. This is like going up to a cop and punching him in the face, and then acting incredulous when he beats the shite out of you.

The "consequence" of unsavory art should never be the expectation of murderous violence. That's not normal for decent people of any creed, and shame on you for attempting to rationalize such.

But the soft bigotry of low expectations says that we would be wrong to expect more from Islam, because...well...you know...

When we start discussing a shooting that was instigated over a drawing in terms of "seeing the issue from both sides", we've crossed over from cliche knee-jerk liberal defense of Islam to something more closely resembling a Portlandia sketch.

This isn't a debate over tax policy. There aren't pros and cons to each ideology. Someone got shot because of what they drew. I wouldn't have drawn it personally, but this "seeing the issue from both sides" is a lot like the old: "What was she wearing?" questions to rape victims.

Exactly. These idiots knew the risks and still chose to exploit another religion. If you don't want to get shot by Muslims, don't have a Mohammed cartoon contest. Pretty simple.

That should have read: If you are Muslim and want to get shot, you should start some shite in Texas.

I mean Texas is probably the worst state to do that. I think even their elementary age kids have CCP.

They're different, yes, but you can't argue in good faith that the police were wrong on Garner (which I think they unquestionably were) and then start your conversation on this issue by stating how wrong the artists were.

These people drawing the prophet didn't physically harm anyone. In an enlightened society we have to attach true value to that. Thought crimes and offenses have to placed many rungs below punching someone in the face. If we disagree on that then the western world is garbage and we truly should emulate the Middle East.

Can you see how you appear to not be arguing in good faith or with any intellectual honesty/consistency?

You keep talking about the way things "should" be, instead of living in reality.

Stonehog, by this way of thinking, must feel that women who are dressed provocatively are just asking to be sexually assaulted.

Couple this logic with what I believe is a person who welched on his word over a bet.

Stonehog. The archetype of an American who has a sliding scale on what is right and wrong.

No.

You've already said it's what Muslims are known for (racist btw, congrats).
You then said if you don't want to get shot, don't do X. (congrats again, you are as bad Neville proclaiming "Peace in our time." Way to appease.

Look, I'm not defending the behavior of anyone, but if there's already an established consequence for an action, don't be so surprised when it happens.

If someone is putting on an event that its sole purpose is to degrade a religion and people are really surprised something like this happened? Did yall really think this would go on without a hitch? I'm not supporting what these two guys did in any way, but frick these people for putting this together in the first place.

Sounds like it did go on without a hitch to me. Make fun of a violent extreme religion, lure extremist violent followers out and kill their punk asses.

Hell, they should do something like this every week.

By saying "should," I am acknowledging the unfortunate reality, you nincompoop

Your position is that we should accept this heinous reality, and I vehemently disagree.

Like sitting in the front of the bus as a black woman, amirite? Don't get surprised when you kick the hornets nest and a world of hurt comes down on you, you asked for it.

I'll save Stonehog the trouble of typing it out himself:

"Those aren't the same at all"

Ok, now that that's out of the way, does any body know Fred Armisen's email address? Someone describing a shooting prompted by a drawing as "you need to see both sides of the issue" seriously needs to make it on the next Portlandia season.

Its good to see that some progs are beginning to understand that the entire Muslim population as a whole are heatherns. Now, try to stop apologizing for their murderous actions.

On a related note, it now appears that both attackers (who were armed with long guns described by the media as 'assault rifles') were taken out by a single officer who was under fire, armed only with a handgun, and who normally works traffic duty.

Damn son, that's doing work.

yeah. i mean, i'm not a gun nut, but own about 5 of them, none of them pistols.

i serve on a deacon board at a pretty large church of 3k and our pastor has said in meetings that he's more worried about crossfire from the congregation than an actual shooting if we ever had a situation arise.
