if we would fight a war correctly instead of handcuffing ourselves id disagree, but under current conditions and how we would fight the war I agree we should do nothing.

What are we going to do if we aren't "handcuffed"? Bomb a starving country back into the stone age for making threats? I don't think China would take too kindly to that, and I don't believe the USA wants to open up that can of worms.

Nothing until they attack South Korea or fire a missile towards us. Then, I say drop one nuke right in the middle of pyongyang and fly back to Missouri. They'll get the point and fall back in line.

Not really at all, NK army is twice the size as the south and the South relies on the US. As well as the US has a large stake in the SK economy

Without a doubt, but more importantly the two players in that imaginary war don't want it either.

Noooooo. North Korea has a massive military. And though they don't have the technical expertise to design and manufacture sophisticated weapons systems, they do have a parent nation (China) willing to sell them shitloads of tanks, etc.

They also have the implicit backing of China.

Ok, so what good is a massive military if you don't have the logistics to transport them and don't have advanced weaponry?

I am of the opinion that S Korea would absolutely destroy the North in a war. The ROK has a very professional military. Keep in mind that the US has a lot of assets in the Asia-pacific region.

So the real "can't let happen" issue is NK dragging China and Japan into conflict with each other. Then we have choices to make and neither are good for us.

Global politics is much more complicated with all of the international conglomerates having financial stakes basically everywhere. Money and economics and stability wins out every time.

NK has isolated themselves so they don't have the same skin in the game, it's totalitarian regime on the brink of collapse. Un has eliminated many potential threats from ranking officers and this is what this is all about, strengthening power at home. However, it's a game that NK can't afford to play because the world is getting fed up with this act. A unified Korea needs to happen, there needs to be unification talks and elimination of NK's leadership, that's where it gets real messy and we need China to double cross Un, and the UN to make sure it all goes smoothly with the neighbors. We can't eliminate Un for him to just be replaced with other power hungry dictators.

The censorship in NK and propaganda is what keeps the public from revolting, they've trained the entire population in the military, unlike the Arab countries where there is a fracture in ethnic partisanship, NK is ethnically homogenous basically and the people have no clue just how bad they really have it. I think if the neighboring countries could ever get some information into NK the outing of neighbors that they do which is like how Europeans outed and turned in Jews and Gyspies to the Nazis, would come to an end and NK's population would demand change and progress.

You don't know what you're talking about.

Without the help of the U.S., North Korea would conquer South Korea.

Not true.

The Soviet Union imploded because it never really was one nation but a conglomeration of different nations held together by WWII leaders. When the WWII leaders started dying off, the glue that held the nations together vanished.

Moreover, the Soviet Union went into debt due to decades of military spending beginning with when they had to compete with the Marshall Plan shortly after WWII and including increased defense spending under Carter.

I'm not talking about cutting them off. I'm talking about what we did at the start of WWII with staying out of it physically but supplying them with weapons and technology.
