The liberal media is over blowing the issue for political gain. It's all they have left.

Katrina

Oh yeah, that storm that killed almost 2,000 Americans. Remember when President Dubya downplayed that, too? It took a week for him to get near New Orleans.

It's not like we didn't have social media and sensational journalism in 2009. Something is different about the perception of this one, and I'm not sure exactly what's caused it. It seems to be in humanity's nature to be reactive rather than proactive, so it's odd to see these measures being taken.

^This. Right now, coronovirus isn't that much of a threat to healthy people - it's sorta like the flu (yes, it can kill you but most are just gonna have a really bad time until it passes) so something else is going on here that they haven't really clued us in on. It may well be the fear that if it does spread it will mutate into something stronger and far more deadly.

One thing, that I do think is different and based on reality is the contagiousness of it seems to be stronger and carriers are asymptomatic while still being contagious. That can spread it faster amongst the population and the more people it hits, the more it will kill and the higher chance it has to mutate into something even worse.

There is actually a drug developed at Uab that is already helping.
An UAB professor helped create an antiviral used to treat other coronaviruses. It’s being used in trails to treat a small sample of patients with CoViD-19 but they have no clue if it’s helping.

Not according to the back of a lysol can. People have been posting videos of lysol cans with the human coronavirus on the label since it came out.
Yeah well, people are dumb. Coronaviruses are a group of viruses that are well known. This specific Coronavirus (2019nCoV) is novel...a new virus to this group of viruses that we know little about.

Left trying to turn Corona into Katrina... A political weapon.

Proof is the coverage of testing kits that Pence said would be ready by today. We only have 75K by today, but will have a million by Tuesday. They try to claim it was a lie and a sign of incompetency. It made headlines.

I mean, no sane person can deny that most liberals are bat shite crazy. Let's not forget that most of them fully believed that Trump colluded with Russia and believed the piss dossier was legit

How pathetic does someone have to be to believe that?

Well the fear for mutation is well founded, because if we are to believe the origin story of this virus, it already had a major mutation when it jumped species. So we know it can mutate, but we don’t know the rate of mutation. It could certainly mutate to something more fatal, but the real concern is the rate of mutation. If the rate is too high, we won’t be able to develop antivirals or vaccines quick enough to treat patients.

But I agree with most here that the media is creating panic. Some numbnuts host of an ABC coronavirus special the other night was urging anyone with a temperature over 100.4 to be tested immediately and quarantine yourself.

I wonder if it's part of the testing being done by two UT professors. They are using the super-computer at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (the super-computer is actually managed by UT as joint project) to try and find a vaccine or drugs that will work. There a just a metric ton of variables to go through hence using the super-computer.

That's a pretty good summary for some of the people on here struggling to understand.

The panic is a bit overblown, but a lot of it does come from the understandable fear of the unknown.

I read today that there is some hope of containing it, so that's good, but if it doesn't get contained it's going to be a very rough next few months.

My biggest concern is the strain on our healthcare system.
The current mortality rate in our country is based on every case getting proper medical care.

From my understanding, which is actually decent in this case, CDC and WHO are throwing every coronavirus antiviral they have in their inventory for patient trials just to see if anything will help. Supercomputers will be vital once a baseline is set, but they don’t have enough data to get viable results from computing.

Not at all, there's a massive difference between the typical telling of half truths from many politicians and Trump's constant lies, hypocrisy and contradictions of his own statements.

What a naive, sheltered, gullible life you have led. Amazing!
