As much as you'd like to demonize the NRA, they spend a fraction of what gun control people spend on lobbying.
Things get voted down, because constituents want them voted down. Look to Colorado after they passed gun control measures on the State level this past year. They ended up with 2 recalled politicians and one forced to retire after a swell of opposition.
Blaming the "big, bad NRA", doesn't lend itself to sensible discussion.

You do realize that it wasn't only the NRA? Many red state democrat senators received thousands of calls from constituents who were against gun control. Funny how those up for re election in red states or swing states voted no

Gun control is political suicide unless you're in the northeast, Cali, or Illinois

You ever been to Brooks Road? I work in the area, and I would not walk around here after dark if I could avoid it. Surely there are some parts of South or North Memphis you wouldn't walk around after dark (at least without carrying or some sign that you are LEO), if you're really being honest.
I was robbed at gunpoint for $2 downtown, but that was in the mid-90's and downtown has been cleaned up a lot since.

Those recalls were a great example that money is certainly important but it does not guarantee election success.
The opponents of the recall outspent those for it by about 6 to 1 and still got smacked at the polls.

Now think about that. That's nearly 68 thousand more crimes a year, without people being able to defend themselves.
If a gun was the only way to defend yourself, you would have a point.

so you would rather cower down in your home and hope the police arrive in time to save you vs actually defending yourself?

How do you, as a law abiding citizen, defend yourself from a criminal with a gun who chose to ignore gun control laws?

Alahunter didn't say the criminal had a gun in those 68,000 crimes, just the homeowner.
I have an axe in case of a break in. But the chances of experiencing a home invasion are astronomical, Klarvin's 1/4 chance is complete horseshite.

Making shite up is a very important part of a reasoned debate. Have you learned nothing from this thread?

I'm talking more recent. Like the firearms that were used in mass killings in Mexico and that are turning up at crime scenes in several U.S. States now, and that was used to murder a Border Patrol Agent.

The NRA is faaar behind left wing gun control groups in their lobbying.
Their power comes from membership. You know, kind of like democracy.
You people who demonize the NRA know shite about them.

Liberals don’t care because they don’t live in areas with high gun violence. The people they trick into agreeing with their virtuous values live in those areas. Put a liberal in a high crime area and they’ll be begging for mercy before the end of the week.
