Love him from Rockford and Maverick, but I'll never forgive him for the notebook.

I kid. Rest easy Maverick.

Never saw The Notebook and this is the first I've heard that he was even in it.

R.I.P. the Rockford and Maverick iterations of James Garner and, of course, the man himself.

Loved his shows and craft ... hated his fricking liberal progressive politics.

Was probably a nice guy ... just delusional and misguided like most bleeding heart liberals.

Did you have to ruin this thread by bringing politics into it? Can't we just acknowledge his gifts and say RIP without the political caveat? The man is dead. His political leanings don't matter.

ETA-Sorry. I'm cranky this evening. Tried to read the Poli board earlier and it messed up my mood.

We cool semo?

It's just that a man's life is judged by all things.

He brought politics into his life .... he could have kept politics to himself. Now that his life has ended we have to ask ourselves why. What he did, was it good for his fellow man, for his country, or bad?

Pontiac sold more Firebirds during that five year period than in any time in their history.

Noah Berry was great.

My favorite James Garner movie ...

Support your local Sheriff ... all star cast back in those days.

Man, I remember the days of those long trailers before everyone lost their attention spans.

Absolutely. That Poli board OC a cesspool. I need to stay away from there, it affects my mood.

And you're right, it's the entirety of a person. I just try not I he judgmental. That's not for me to do. Most people have different politics than me (I'm conservative on fiscal and defense, liberal on social issues) but I don't like or dislike a person based on their politics. I've found that if people really want to find a solution, compromise can generally be found.

I also generally believe the best about people, and expect the best from them until I'm proven wrong. That's gotten me burned more than once. But it's who I am. I want to find the best things about people and focus on those things, especially once they're gone. I'd certainly hope than when I'm gone people will remember the good things about me.

So, I'm going to remember this man as a terrific actor who brought entertainment to the world. Through his gifts he left the world a better place, and that's all any of us can hope for - to use our God-given gifts for the betterment of our world.

You young'uns need to watch The Great Escape when you can. One of my favorite movies, and he was perfect for his part.

My mom always had a crush on this guy...he was a huge influence on how Tom Selleck played his role in Magnum P.I. Also liked his version of Wyatt Earp in "The Hour Of The Gun", with Jason Robards as Doc Holiday...
