Anecdotal evidence only, so TIFWIW:

I've been a cop for 20 years and have been road patrol my entire career. In that entire time, I have only responded to one incident of a child accidentally shooting/mishandling a firearm to where another person or the child was injured.

I've lost track of the amount of drownings/near drownings of kids in swimming pools (not to mention the 2 fatal drownings I've been to of adults just in the last 8 months). So if all the anti-gun advocates who trot out the "Think of the children" everytime a child was hurt with a firearm really cared about children, they'd be on their soapboxes to have everyone's swimming pools filled in with cement. Methinks there is another agenda at work here...

I'd just like to reiterate I'm not anti-gun. This is a small trend, but a trend nonetheless and I fear it may get worse. It's not taking anyone's rights to own a firearm if we have a little more structure and training to own and conceal a firearm. It's eliminating the drive-thru and making you go inside.

It's putting an undue burden on citizens and again, will do nothing to stop crime. With over 300 million firearms in circulation, you'd have to make it illegal for individuals to sell to individuals, illegal for family members to gift or pass down firearms...

I'm ok with making people register every gun, perform a background check, and report when they sell or pass them to family members.

Registering firearms has been ruled unconstitutional by courts.

And this explains why socialists are about to take the White House, again.

Then that needs to be changed.

It's attacked every day by socialists and communists. I've no doubt, one day it will. Then we can be like Europe.

Charlie Hebdo?
Paris Attacks 2015?
Anders Behring Breivik killing 80?

Chicago is the perfect example of how extreme gun control doesn't work. If a criminal wants a gun, they will find one.

I started this thread only because it was funny/ironic and the chick was hot. But now that it's getting serious, would you mind citing the cases to which you refer?

I don't want to jump into a tired debate but bringing up Chi gun laws is weak when you can drive like 45 mins away and buy guns legally you cant in the city. Europe doesn't really work like that. Can't really compare the two situations.

I actually isn't true. To purchase any gun legally in Illinois a resident must have an FOID card which is issued by the IL state police. All deemed assault weapons are banned in Cook county.
quote:

On July 12, 2010 a new Chicago city ordinance took effect that allowed the possession of handguns with certain restrictions. Residents were required to obtain a Chicago Firearms Permit. To get the permit they were required to complete a 5-hour firearms training course, pass a background check (including fingerprinting), and pay a $100 permit fee. Chicago's gun registration requirement was retained, with new registrations beling allowed for the first time since 1982.[85][86] Possession of firearms was permitted only inside a dwelling, not in a garage or on the outside grounds of the property. Only one gun at a time was allowed to be kept in a usable state.

Not trying to be nitpicky, but a 4 year old is hardly an infant. An infant couldn't pick up a gun, much less shoot one from their car seat.

The U.S. Court of appeals ruled this afternoon that much of Washington D.C.’s ridiculous gun-registration law violates the Second Amendment.(Heller case)

Also.. the Gun Control Act of 1968:

No such rule or regulation prescribed [by the Attorney General] after the date of the enactment of the Firearms Owners Protection Act may require that records required to be maintained under this chapter or any portion of the contents of such records, be recorded at or transferred to a facility owned, managed, or controlled by the United States or any State or any political subdivision thereof, nor that any system of registration of firearms, firearms owners, or firearms transactions or disposition be established. Nothing in this section expands or restricts the Secretary's authority to inquire into the disposition of any firearm in the course of a criminal investigation.
