Except you didn't because you're hung up on people getting excited about beating Ghana who has had our number for years.

We beat a small African nation. I don't see how that's impressive. But I'm not very knowledgable of the game so my opinion on the matter shouldn't be a concern.

Okay... so it's really not that bad. It feels like it due to the nature of the loss, but we're definitely in good position

Yeah, it just feels bad because it happened in the last seconds of the game. But there's really no chance of Portugal doing anything if they didn't beat us. Their goal differential is horrible from Germany.

Because I said I wanted us to win but wouldn't be devastated because I was tired of hearing about how great of a win Ghana was?

The same Ghana that tied the team picked to be in the finals? I can also guarantee that Ghana does some serious damage to Portugal. They actually have a much better attacking group than we do.

I'm not sure that is right about the tie breaker with Ghana.

I think if they win and we lose, it is goal differencial between us and Ghana.

If Ghana wins by 2 and germany beats us by 2 we are done.

I'm pulling for us to win. But I just won't be impressed until we actually beat someone of Germany or Brazil's stature. Doesn't mean I'm not pulling for us.

The GD is thrown out if we beat them -- it wouldn't be right for a head to head not to take precedent over proxy games.

The only way Ghana advances is if we beat Germany and they beat Portugal.

I would think an ole miss fan would be quite used to rejoicing in mediocre wins.

Best case scenario (if US loses): Portugal beats Ghana, assuming they don't win by more than 5

Well the USA is the Ole Miss of World Cup soccer so this makes sense.

Anyone know who plays first? US-Germany or Ghana-Portugal?

You are being obtuse on this and it doesn't make sense.

Another possibility is that if we lose by, say, 3 or 4 and Portugal wins by 2, they'll go through.

We're going to be playing defense heavy (and so is Germany), though. If we tie, Germany and USA goes through no matter what, so neither team is going to try very hard.

I'm reading the tie breaker rules on wiki and the first one is goal differencial, not head to head.

I'm not well versed on this but that is what it says.
