Posted this on the money board. Just looking for as many opinions as possible.
In my first 2 semesters, I was a lazy slob and was put on academic suspension because of my GPA. My GPA the past 3 semesters since returning has been between 3.0 and 3.75 but my cumulative is still being held back because of those first 2 semesters. I've started applying for summer internships but most require a minimum of 3.0. Are those first 2 semesters keeping me from being accepted or are most willing to look at the past 2 years since coming back to school?

First two are hurting you. There are students that don’t have a bad first 2 semesters, so you need to have something else on your resume that would make a firm choose you over those other students.

Well since then I've been able to join the national honors society as well as 3 years of college golf over those past 3 semesters I've done well in. Would like to think if I can get an interview I can prove I'm more of the studious person I am now rather than the one who held me back my first 2 semesters.

No they’re just looking at your cumulative GPA
What kind of internship are you looking at as well?

Depends on what you are interviewing for.
For starters, national honors society is not taken seriously at all, golf isn't going to help you get an internship (unless it's an internship at a golf course maybe), and the only way you are going to be given a chance to prove yourself is if you aren't competing with other interviewees who didn't dick around the first couple of years of school.
You haven't said what you are studying, but whatever it is, you need to get out and try to find some training or additional learning outside of school in that field.

Also, network
Do you know anyone in the industry that you’re looking into?
With grades like that and assuming a non target school
You’re gonna need help

Some folks learned to shotgun beer in college, graduated with a 2.7 and scored 86th percentile on the LSAT
Screw the rules
Calm down

I like you. I also have the rest of my life staring me dead in the face and want to make sure I have at least somewhat of a plan when graduation day comes around. Thanks for the words of encouragement

Intraship questions are handled by Counselor Troi. Intership questions must be forwarded to Fleet Command by Captain Picard, in French.

OP, you still have not said what your major is or what the internship you are seeking with.
We can’t give you anymore advice beyond “yes, you screwed up at school and that is holding you back”

This.
If he’s trying to get an internship at an investment bank coming from a non target he would need to have great grades or know someone

How about working with the SCA? Looks great on a resume and is rewarding work.

Unless you know someone, GPA is the only thing you have- just being honest. In those kind of positions, they expect people's 'bad semesters' to be at least 3.0 (if not higher). I literally didn't attend an entire course for a semester and made an A- (albeit that was the tornado year)

First of all, I'd say no if you can explain yourself well. Verbal communication is the key most of the time. Throw in some memorized wordage naturally. Second of all as someone has already said, get to know people, your fellow students, etc. Its really not what you know when you are looking for a job, its who you now 90% of the time. Don't ever be a jerk to anyone, it gets around real quick if you do.

Yes, it matters. I had a simlar issue to you my first two years of college. I almost had to drop out entirely after my sophomore year. However, I hustled, much as you have, and recovered. My GPA definitely held me back until I finally managed to pull it back over a 3.0. Most large companies do nearly all of their hiring process through HR Departments that don't know their arse from a hole in the wall. The only way they understand how to screen resumes and talent is through objective numbers. So, they set arbitrary cutoffs to screen the thousands of resumes they get and if you don't make the cutoff, your resume will literally never reach anyone who will read another word of it. On the flip side, some companies don't care about GPA nearly as much and look more at extra-curriculars.
The reality is a sub-3.0 GPA in most majors will hold you back from a lot of opportunities. In fact, in some majors, a sub 3.5 GPA will completely screw you. It sucks that GPA matters so much to incompetent HR departments, but that's reality. Once you get 5 years out of school, no one cares about GPA, but to get that first job, GPA isn't everything, but it's a big thing.
Just keep grinding to pull up that GPA. At LSU, you can eliminate a D or F in a class by retaking it and scoring a B or higher. That's a good way to help flip your GPA, even if you don't necessarily need that class you failed to graduate.

Very strong point there. I did that.

That's your hook. Find the name of the big boss's secretary, and ask her if the boss plays golf. Treat her with great respect, and she can guide your resume to the right office.
If the businesses play much corporate golf, they'll take a near-scratch golfer over a Phi Beta Kappa any day of the week.
