This shite right here:
TrueMass
There's 710 calories per shake. Supplement your daily meals with at least 2 of these, IMO.
You probably need to take in around 3,000-3,500 calories per day. Make sure you get at least 1-2g of protein per lb of body weight and probably around 2-3g of carbs per lb of body weight.
It goes without saying that you should hit the gym during this. You want to follow a pretty solid mass-gaining program. I suggest this one:
Arnold's Blueprint to Mass
I started working out and eating similar to what I've suggested here back in April and I've gained almost 20 lbs of lean muscle. I was around 160 when I started and now I hover around 178-180. I'm still gaining, too.
EDIT - Also you can follow some of the articles on this website:
LiftBigEatBig
It's a good place for solid, no bullshite information.
You're gonna have to work. If you've been a hardgainer your whole life then it's gonna be an uphill bitch of a climb to start gaining. Stick with it, though, and you'll see results.
EDIT AGAIN - Saw where you mentioned steroids. No. You don't need them. Steroids are only something you do once you've peaked and even then only after thorough research and a solid understanding of the risks involved. For now you should just hit the gym and start eating more.

Will gaining a bunch of weight make you healthier? Are you taking about putting on muscle?

Would it be a bad idea to ask for steroids or hgh in order to get bigger?
You're nowhere near being ready for juice yet. Plus, steroid use (stacks, cycles, dosages, and post-cycle therapy) is a very complex matter. No doctor would ever prescribe steroids and/or HGH without it being medically necessary......i.e. muscle wasting due to some chronic disease like AIDS. You're just going to have to lift (stay off the damn treadmill) and force down calories even when you don't want to. The upside for you is that you can eat carbs in virtually unlimited quantities. Personally, one of my go-to big boy meals is 8oz of grilled chicken with a cup of rice and some steamed veggies. Steak/large baked potato is good too. For breakfast, stuff down at least 4 large eggs with a big bowl of oatmeal and some toast/bisquits/muffins and some fruit. Stay away from Pop Tarts and Fruit Loops. They only have sugar and very little nutritional value.

If you're thin because you were ill, please get well before planning any added weight gain. Don't frick with your health.
If you're young, continue to eat healthy and just add in more protein. Don't establish bad eating habits while trying to add weight. Believe me it's hard as hell to break bad eating habits.
Good luck. Stay healthy.

Go eat at all the shitty buffet's for 2 of your daily meals and you are good.
My son's HS football team ate at one last night and all I saw were fat people. The food looked like a calorie orgy taking place. I told my son I will never eat at one of those places again.

*Assuming you have a smartphone
1) Calculate your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE)
2) Download MyFitnessPal app
3) Track EVERY SINGLE THING YOU EAT AND DRINK
4) Consume enough calories to equal your TDEE + 500 (if you want to be very aggressive, you can go +1000, but you will likely gain more fat than desired)
5) Look into a beginners weightlifting program (like StrongLifts or StartingStrength). This will help you turn those extra calories into muscle, instead of fat.
6) Go to /r/loseit and /r/fitness and read everything. They are extremely knowledgeable on the subject matter and can help you.
The hardest part of gaining weight when you are underweight is the diet portion (which is 90% of the battle). Eating a surplus of calories comes hard for a lot of people. Especially considering you are most likely under weight because you have been eating at a caloric deficit.
Many people will frown at this advice, but if I were you, I wouldn't worry too much about eating clean. At 6'1", 140 lbs, you should eat anything and everything you can/want to gain some weight. When you begin lifting (which you should do immediately), you will benefit from "noob gains," regardless of eating clean, so long as you eat at a caloric surplus! Drink sodas, eat McDonalds, salads, whatever, JUST EAT!!!
