I've been through Andrew, Katrina, Rita, and Gustav, amongst other storms I can't even recall.
This one scares me. Stay out of the way.

I live in Columbia, but I'm a little nervous. One model still has it as a Cat 2 by the time it gets 100 miles inland to us. I think we should have a better grasp on this one later today with the evening models, but right now it is a little scary.

I live about 300 yards from the beach in Biloxi right now, and there's not a single structure between my apartment and the water. Selfishly, I hope this one stays out of the gulf.

The state of South Carolina has issued a state-wide state of emergency in anticipation of Irma.

My cousin goes to C of C, and he just asked if he could stay with me in Columbia on Sunday-Monday, because they have cancelled classes on Monday already.
That seems a little premature to me, but I guess better safe than sorry.

This thing is headed straight at me. I'm hoping school is closed soon. Work is closing down tomorrow. I might have to evacuate to Aiken!

Yeah, the models look to have it hit Miami, bounce out over the gulf stream, then make landfall again at the SC/Ga coastal border and then proceed northwest inland. Aiken won't be far enough inland, I'm afraid. I mentioned earlier that 'as the crow flies' we are only ~60 miles from the closest coastal area which would be exactly where they have it coming in.
I'd head to Atl if I could but I have to work.

Atlanta might have to be it then. I look forward to being in a car with two kids for 9 hours trying to get there.

Oh God be with you! I remember those days well. Made a trip by car from Barnwell to Orlando without stopping overnight and was ready to go postal by about half way there. Kids were 8 and 4.

Try and get west before going north full bore. Traffic on i75 will be better than 95.
