2.50. Pipeline shutdown already has people panic buying, though, and I expect prices to go up by the end of the week.

ETA: I was overly optimistic. Price has gone up 0.12/gallon since I looked this morning.

$2.83 for tier1/top tier. Can get the cheaper stuff for $2.75, but I'll never understand why anyone does.

It'll go down within a month unless there is a heavy inflation factor from all the stimulus.

You assume I can find any with some left. With the I-40 bridge down its taking much longer for tankers to come across one the old bridge and people are panic buying like crazy. It is going to suck living here until they get that fixed and to be honest, given the size of it, I think that will take months.

Exactly what is this based on? The pipeline is up and running and has been for days.

My dad worked for a gas company when I was a kid, at a distribution center. I'm sure things were more manual back in the day, but the way it works is those pipelines are basically hooked up to all those distribution centers for different companies. And they are all around the country.

These pipelines bring different types of gas in, and they are done on a schedule. The individual centers only get fuel sent to them occasionally, certainly not needed every single day. I don't know the exact schedule, I only ever opened the pipelines at night, and I'm sure there were day deliveries at times. But they measure the amount of gas in those huge arse tanks daily.

But anyway, that is how the majority of gas is distributed across the country. It shouldn't take long for the pipeline to catch up.

Then the trucks that go to the individual local gas stations will go to those centers, fill up their tanks and distribute it around. And it doesn't matter what company it is, they all will buy the cheapest gas available(although usually the same company gives a discount, so exxon will be cheaper for exxon etc, but then sometimes another center may want to unload a bunch of gas, and they'll be cheaper. Every truck driver will call(probably more internet based these days, it use to be a recorded message with the prices) and get the best deal.

All the additives that make for special brands of gas are added after.

So even if just 1 distribution center in your area was to get gas off the pipeline, all the truck drivers and gas stations can get that gas, and probably will.

So unless you have a shortage of truck drivers to distribute it in your area, it should generally be over pretty quickly.

A bridge isn't going to make a difference.
