The problems of deafness are deeper and more complex, if not more important, than those of blindness. Deafness is a much worse misfortune. For it means the loss of the most vital stimulus- the sound of the voice that brings language, sets thoughts astir and keeps us in the intellectual company of men.

They both suck equally I'm sure. I think being blind would be terrible. At least being deaf you can ignore a lot.

Well I am hard of hearing and I can attest that it sucks. My hearing fluctuates from day to day so a hearing aid doesn't do a tremendous amount of good. I miss out on a ton of conversations.

I've stopped watching movies at the theater because unless I go to a screening for the hearing impaired I miss out on most of the dialogue.

Being blind would be worse, but being deaf/hard of hearing sucks the meat missile.

I think going blind later in life would be worse than going deaf. But to be born deaf, you have no communication with the world. The world is just a painting. How are you even gonna learn to read, how can you sound out words without even having a comprehension of what sound is?

If your kid was born blind lots of accommodations would need to be made but you wouldn't need to learn an entirely new language yourself (ASL) just to give them a chance

We're so happy that we live in 1800s Alabama because it's sunny and there is no crime

There’s a closed captioning glasses device available at the Regal.

Helen Keller was one of the few people from Alabama that could read in the late 1800s.

I was thinking the same thing...unless you had both sight and hearing, then lost them...how could you accurately determine what each brought to the table?

both of my brother's kids are deaf. fraternal twins, 6 months old in a couple days. getting hearing aids first, but based on their results, looks like cochlear implants are in their future. 100% honesty, the thought of having to learn sign language, if i ever wanted to communicate with them, freaked me the frick out. that's when it hit me how real shite was for my brother, wife, and sons. All that said, i'd take deaf over blind. i enjoy the freedom of mobility sight gives you, plus i ignore most of the shite people say to me anyways

I’d choose deafness over blindness.

I’d hate to not see anything. Deafness can be overcome easily today. Don’t even need sign language...just use text messages

I can only hear in one ear. Obviously it doesnt compare to being completely blind or deaf but it is much much harder to do social situations with lots a background noise. In a bar, I cant really hold much of a conversation

Her biggest ailment was being a radical socialist.

I'd rather see my wife than hear my wife.

Some would say it’s a gift not to hear your wife.
