Has Starbucks leadership lost its mind?

So we all (probably) remember when two black men were asked to leave the store after not ordering anything and asking for the bathroom key (after being told that it was only for paying customers).
They were then arrested and we fell into what looks to be a little bit of retardation from Starbucks who closed thousands of stores yesterday to give race relation training to its employees.
This is literally what some of it looks like.
Starbucks Executive Vice President Rossann Williams gave an example, claiming she observed a barista approach a customer who was using uncomfortable language and say: “You are in our store every day, and we love that this is your third place, but from one human to another human, the language that you are using is making other customers uncomfortable. So either you have to change your behavior, and stay and be a part of our third place, or I’m going to have to ask you to leave, and you can come back at a later time, when you feel like you can be a part of our third place. And in fact if you want to go have a seat, I’ll bring you over a cup of water, just to make sure that it’s a great rest of your day.”
“Here’s my belief: Growing up, there was a term called ‘color blind,’ which described a learning behavior of pretending not to notice race — that doesn’t even make sense,” said Johnson. “So today we are starting a new journey, talking about race directly — what my friend and Starbucks board member Mellody Hobson calls being ‘color brave.’”
What kind of Mickey Mouse bullshite is going on at Starbucks?

I’m wondering what “third place” is. Could it be like third base, maybe? Or the bronze medal?

All of this is very confusing to me.
The third place, where our language and behavior is the only one excepted, or you have to leave, but we’ll recognize your skin color, and we’ll talk about it because we’re color-brave.
Sounds to me like a bunch of thought up BS coming from the top of Starbucks to find a way around the bad PR.

These nuts have forgotten their duties of running a business.

They never had one, look at the company's historic and present day leadership; Seattle hippies and New York City Bankers. They were always crazy liberals and this whole situation is fricking hilarious.

It's just bizarre to watch them slip further and further into madness without really understanding that their effect actually is a form of racism. Color blind doesn't mean that you ignore a person's past -- it just means you don't make decisions of judgment based solely on their color.
Atlanta had a fantastic episode with an overly compensating white man who is doing everything in his power -- exaggeratedly -- to make his black guests feel welcome.
This type of behavior from any service would humiliate me.

Yep and I think everyone's seen that on a personal level at some point in their lives. People don't respect you if you try to pander to them, they think you're a bitch.

Certain customers are going to really abuse it, it's going to backfire and hurt their bottom line. In a decade or two, when SB goes under, people will look back at this as part of the problem.

I've heard that this kind of mandatory training often has mixed results, it can affect behavior in the direction that they want in that baristas may not call the cops on minorities in the future, but it actually has the opposite affect on the way people think. Training like this makes people more racist toward the perceived victim group. I don't know if that's true but it would make sense to me.

Nah. These types are willfully ignorant. They'll blame it on something else. It's the world's fault, not theirs.

Has anybody asked Bowl Jackson how his day of sensitivity training went?

They think flogging themselves in the streets is going to lead to this great moment where the entire country takes pause and marvels at them with their Flaggant-esque behavior.
Much in the same way, the vast majority of people are looking at them like they're crazy and we don't understand what they're doing.

I don't know if I take the ultra conservative narrative that homeless people will "live" there, but I have no doubt that people will likely, as you said, abuse it to no end.

It is racism, no matter how much they try to change the narrative if you treat people differently because of their skin -- good or bad, that is the definition of racism.
That being said: I don't want to sound too snarky when I say this, but their base are liberals and a lot of them are going to think this is a good idea, and most people willing to spend that much money on coffee are probably liberal as well. (If I had to guess). I don't think it'll have the opposite effect immediately, but I 100% think that this policy will either be augmented to remove loitering peoples, or chase away so much revenue that they will have to reevaluate.
The CEO will be fired/asked to resign within 3 years, I can bet that.

for those of you that do not frequent the Politics Board:
re - Starbucks - About once a week we find needles, drug baggies, blood all over the toilet or walls
This policy will cause them to have to shut down stores in urban areas at some point

It's one of the things I really like about Mexico in general -- they just straight up don't put up with the riff raff. They ask people to leave all the time from the humble mom and pop store all the way up to Walmart, and they do it unabashedly.

"Third places is a term coined by sociologist Ray Oldenburg and refers to places where people spend time between home ('first' place) and work ('second' place). They are locations where we exchange ideas, have a good time, and build relationships."
