Her life was over at Alabama. It didn’t matter if they expelled her IMHO. I guess I just have a different view of it than some on here.
I'm fine with social situations weeding someone out organically.
This isn't that. And I'm not saying I'm against it, I just don't like making decisions based on PR situations. I'm guessing (knowing) this isn't the usual and codified punishment standard for something like this. Just making shite up as you go along is not a good discipline/punishment strategy IMHO, but what the fvck do I know.

She was just trying to fit in with the rest of bammer students. I think she even used this as a defense

Exactly - this is the sort of stuff you run into when you just start willy nilly making ultimate decisions like this without a specific policy and punishment structure in place.

Good for the school making that easy decision. Those videos made me cringe.

Free speech should mean free from consequences levied by the government, of which UA and every other public university is part and parcel.

One is saying he doesn’t like a single person and the other is saying she hates an entire group of people solely because of the color of their skin. I’m fine if you don’t think she should be expelled, but these aren’t the same.

nothing because he didn't use racist language, I'd imagine.

Fair or not universities take a business approach to it. Baker Mayfield gets in a lot more trouble for his antics if he weren’t a superstar. My advise would be to know your worth to your university/employer. Drunk, obnoxious, sorority girls are less valuable to Alabama than star football players

Classic bait-and-switch. But I will hand it to you - at least you are consistent

Do we know for sure there is no specific policy structure in place? It was referred to the Office of Student Council. And I'd imagine they have a protocol to follow in these situations. I'm not sure who is ultimately left with the decision to expel a student though.
It's likely moot anyway. I'm guessing she would have withdrawn and gone back to NJ anyway based on the public backlash it received.
Good riddance.

I think she is confused about who lives in Syria

Without looking at a chapter roster, I would guess Alpha Phi is 75-85% out of state girls.
It's full of pretty, slutty, dumb girls from California and the Northeast.
They have the lowest GPA on campus and the only girls from Alabama I know who pledge Alpha Phi have a sub-2.8 GPA - that's the only way ANY girl from Alabama pledges there.
If other lower tiered older sororities took those low GPA girls I don't think there would be more than 10 total in state girls in Alpha Phi. If an in state girl is going to pledge one of those houses they would rather be in one that's been on campus 50+ years (DZ, ADPi, ZTA etc.) than one that's been around less than 15 years.

BYU is a private school, though, not a state-run school. Back when I was in school, this sort of rant was not uncommon to hear in a fraternity house or at the frattier bars. Even visiting high school friends at other SEC schools or smaller schools like Rhodes, Valdosta State, or Sewanee you’d hear some kids drop racial slurs. The difference these days is that social media is now a part of everyone’s day to day life and kids do not realize that the shite they put out there is NOT PRIVATE. She is a fricking moron and Alabama admissions should have to answer for accepting someone that dumb into the university. What she said was reprehensible and disgusting, but I don’t think she should be expelled for it. Ostracized? Shunned? Mocked and ridiculed by her fellow students until she transfers? Yes. But I do not think a state school should expel someone for their opinions, no matter how ridiculous those opinions are. It’s far too slippery of a slope, if you ask me.

Has there been any official indication from Alabama that she was expelled? If so I haven't seen it and I doubt that someone can actually be expelled in 24 hours. My bet is she voluntarily withdrew.
