It does strike me as odd that a woman can't just bare her breast unless it is to feed her child.

In New York being topless is legal.

Thank you for that piece of helpful information. The next time I happen to be in New York City and a woman asks me if it's OK for her to show off her boobies, I can advise her correctly.

Here is another question I have about the topic. This is not just for you but for everyone. Would it be a conservative and liberal stance on this or would the lines be gray? I would guess most conservatives would be against breast feeding in public while the liberals would say it is OK to do so. Is that incorrect?

That would be incorrect. Most of the very pro-breastfeeding people I know are conservatives. This is actually an issue I think both sides agree on...just weirdos that fall into their own category that have a problem with it.

Here's a bit of information for you. You're 100% correct that it isn't illegal to breastfeed in public places. You know what else is legal? Taking photographs of people or objects in public places.

What isn't legal is walking up and assaulting someone who is engaged in a legal activity. That a$$ whipping will accomplish two things - land his arse in jail and cost him a lot of $$ in fines and civil judgement.

I agree with everyone else, there's nothing wrong with it at all but the mother should have the decency to simply use a light coverup - which also as others have said is the norm. I'm even older than Spleen and like him I've never seen a woman just whip a puppy out so it really isn't an issue at all.

There's a very fine line in taking a photo of something in public and harassing someone(which is illegal). Personally if I see some creeper photographing my wife breastfeeding my kid, I'll ask him nicely to stop harassing my wife once, after that I'm glad to spend a couple of hours in jail and pay a fine to teach a creep a lesson and all those who witness the lesson being administered. Personally, I've never seen someone do this because, again it's not normal and common-sense dictates you don't photograph strangers doing normal things like feeding their baby. Only a weird freak would do this.

Secondly, if you've never witnessed a woman just flop it out to feed her baby you haven't traveled much outside of the USA or Europe. I can tell you in Latin America and Africa it is an everyday occurrence. Heck, I live in Asheville, NC and I've seen it multiple times here.

I don't disagree that this behavior would be indicative of a serious freak and asking them to stop is a proper step. Calling the cops if they don't is the next proper step, but if you want to resort to starting a fight go for it. You might want to consider, however, that you won't just be paying a fine. You'll be writing a bigass check to the guy you just punched. Also, if you punch him for doing a legal activity in a stand-your-ground state, he might just decide your arse needs killing - at which point you'll just be dead and the cops would tell him to have a nice day.

Our youngest is 4, so our feeding days are over. I was speaking in a hypothetical situation. Again, continuously photographing a woman doing something legal even after being asked nicely to stop constitutes harassment which means he is no longer under the umbrella of legality. In fact, I'm almost certain you could legally obtain a restraining order against a creep doing something like this. If a creep wants to shoot me, he'd better have a quicker draw and trigger finger than I do. Possible, although not likely. I do agree calling the cops is the most appropriate second step but sometimes someone just need a good old fashioned a$$ whipping.

IDGAF that you DGAF what other countries do, I'm just stating facts. And last time I checked Asheville, NC is still in the USA where I've seen it many times.

First time I've ever heard anyone try to put a political slant on breastfeeding

My mom is as conservative as they come and actually was a breastfeeding consultant as a side job back in the 90's.

Amen, brother.

Although unfortunately, I've only ever seen one hot chick do it. Also unfortunately, when I went back into the kitchen and told the cook about her, I was informed that she was his niece. He was not joking.

No issue with it at all, but a cover up and not just whipping it out in a restaurant is simple courtesy right?

Maybe this is the nest and we're all just joking around about staring, but a breastfeeding breast is not that attractive or sexy.

Easy answer.

If she's good looking, with nice breasts, then it's ok.

If not, then no.

LOL just asking questions because I really don't know.

Somewhere along the way boobs became taboo. I think it is funny that people say it is totally natural as if that makes a difference. So is a whole lot of shite you will get arrested for in public.

And for the folks who say it is perfectly fine, just cover up and be decent about it, that is not how shite works (although I think this is the camp I am in). We have to get all lawyered up and tell people just what they can or cannot do. Everybody's normal is not the same. Some people did not get very good home training.

How does it work? I think instances of a woman whipping it out in public for all to see are very rare. Like I said earlier, I'm in my 40's and I've never seen it happen. The vast majority of women are modest enough to do it discretely. I have no way to know this for sure, but I'd bet most of them want to keep it private anyway as it's a private bonding moment between them and their infant child. Perhaps an actual mom instead of a bunch of men could chime in.

It's ridiculous that boobs are as taboo as they are in our society (especially when juxtaposed with how prevalent sexual themes/innuendo also are in our media).

While I agree that the "it's just natural" defense is a poor one on its own, it DOES make a difference that it's a reasonable/healthy way to feed a child.

Yeah, it pretty much is exactly the way it works most of the time, actually

People against breastfeeding in public make it seem like the majority of chick's who do it are serially indiscreet. The opposite is the norm if you pay attention.

I once saw a kid, probably six or so, walk up to his mother, who was sitting in a waiting room, lift up her shirt and start feeding. Just guessing on the age, but he stood flat footed to breastfeed.

I agree with the most of the time part. But you know there will be moms that don't GAF and will just take their shirt off and basically say ef everybody. Give people an inch and you know what will happen. I am speaking hypothetically, but we can't even figure out which bathrooms people can use.
