I was at a pool area at a condo resort in Orange Beach this weekend. The amount of fat people was shocking. Just because they make a 2 piece bathing suit in XXXXXXXXXL doesn’t mean you should buy one and wear it.

That increased expense argument is false. Statistically, you, as a fat person, will have significantly less lifetime health expense than a "healthy person". There have been studies proving this. Fat people die many years younger, and very often, suddenly.

You are certainly more likely to be a diabetic or have heart disease, but your life expectancy as one is FAR shorter than a thin diabetic. And there is ZERO chance that you will ever require a decade or more of $6k per month care for dementia.

The reality is that people who fat shame you are just being dicks and looking for an excuse to make that okay.

For the record, smokers don't live very long, either, but their illnesses tend to be very, very expensive before they die.

Very true.
If you want to see expensive, see insurance payouts on an overweight, 65 year old black woman with high blood pressure, diabetes and COPD.

Maybe. But being fat is a lifestyle choice, AND ANYONE WHO SAYS DIFFERENTLY IS DETERMINED TO BLAME THEIR MISERABLE FAT arse EXISTENCE ON ANYONE BUT THEMSELF. BOTTOM frickING LINE.

If you make the decision to mainline whoppers and Krispy Kreme, be prepared to deal with the consequences. One of those consequences is people finding your appearance unpleasant to look at.

Muh low metabolism.

Muh no time to exercise.

Muh too expensive to eat healthy.

I love the excuses people use when there is no excuse.

Muh shame.

I haven't heard that one, yet.

Let me guess: fat shaming causes stress, stress causes cortisol production, cortisol production causes accumulation of fat.

Amiright?

Like drug addiction, it's a choice. I'm actually more sympathetic to fat people than drug addicts, though. Fat people don't drain the financial and emotional resources of everyone they love before they are found dead in an abandoned house after being missing for two weeks. Fat people don't steal from their elderly parents, or siblings. They don't pass out at the wheel of a running car with a toddler belted in the car seat. Goddamn, I hate fricking addicts.

The more I type, the more I think fat people aren't that big a deal. I say let the fat people live out their shortened lives fat and happy, and fricking ban narcan, because every goddamn opioid addict deserves what the frick they get. Not a single goddamn one of those cocksuckers deserves a second chance to destroy other peoples lives.

Pretty much the gist of it.

Agree with a lot of this, however, there are cases of addicts changing, (like my brother in law, dude was considered a lost cause, but beat his addiction by taking personal responsibility, a has been sober for 10 years and is a completely different man.) I know it's anecdotal, but it happens. But he'd be the first to tell you that getting sober doesn't excuse the fricked up shite you've done, and you still have to face the consequences.

Fat people do affect their families, specifically their children by setting a shitty example of how to not be a pile of shite. Fat tubs of shite beget more fat tubs of shite.

I know ONE single person who has gone from the bottom depths of addiction (I'm not talking casual use, but hard core addiction) and actually become a productive member of society, a good father, and a decent human being. He's also a friend. The rest are still worthless addicts, or dead.

On the other hand, most (not all, but I don't know any 600 lb fatties) every fat person I know has at least some kind of job and supports their children. Many of them coached in our little leagues, or were active in the PTA and local schools. I did know one 400+ lb guy who didn't work, but even he never missed a single event his daughter ever participated in. True, he was probably a bad example for her, but she was an athlete in HS and college anyway, and is now a nurse. She is nowhere close to fat, and he's walking her down the aisle next month. I'd take that fat frick over an addict any day of the week. (Also anecdotal, I know)

I have had addicts in my family, and I have fat people in my family. Everybody cries when the fat guy dies of a heart attack in his 50's, because his kids loved him and he was always the grill guy at the family reunion. When the drug addict dies in his 30's, everybody just breathes a sigh of relief that his kids will never have to see that shite again and tries to figure out which family members should try to get custody.

I know I've strayed off topic, but this has been an interesting thread for me. I honestly don't give a shite about fat shaming anymore. Do it if you want. I've had an epiphany. I am going to actively start addict shaming. frick those goddamn selfish losers.

I don't actively fat shame, I've got better things to do. I will however, visibly roll my eyes at someone who complains about their weight and then 20 minutes later inhales a 2nd piece of chocolate cake. And when they get mad about it, I'll call them on their shite.

In my experience, tough love is the only thing that works.

While it is easy to blame the fat people for being fat, perhaps it is the culture

#1 We have food companies making BILLIONS selling us salt and sugar
#2 We have more processed foods than home made foods
#3 We have commercials showing food 24 / 7 / 365
#4 We have TV and cell phone dinners, not family dinners (slower eating and social interaction)
#5 We have a society cocooning instead of venturing outdoors
#6 We have eliminated corner groceries (shopping for few days) for supermarkets (bulk shopping)

Looks like you are avoiding assigning personal responsibility to the obese.

This thread motivated me, I had a cheeseburger and fries for dinner last night. I bet I hadn’t eaten fries in a year. Damn, they were good.

I have a legit, real thyroid/metabolism problem, but I get fat because of shitty behaviors (eating terrible, drinking too much and not exercising). When I am disciplined, I lose weight easily.

I am the problem. No amount of advertising or other outside influences have any part of it.

This guy gets it.

I have a pretty low metabolism that has plummeted as I’ve gotten older. The only things that keeps my gut in check and keeps my energy level up is exercise and eating right.

Amazing-that’s exactly what we’ve been told our entire lives.
