Heading to Starkvegas next weekend. Anyone on here have recommendations for food/cool bars or cool places to see? I’ve heard of the cotton district and Ricks Cafe but besides that, I got nothing.

I can try to help, but I haven’t been back to Starkville in a long time.

In the cotton district you have Two Brothers which focuses on smoked meats and is really good—also had MS brewed beer when I was in school. You also have Bulldog Burger Co. which a lot of people like, but I thought was a bit overrated.

A bit farther out on HWY 82 is Dave’s Darkhorse Tavern. It’s a hole-in-wall place that has a really cool warm bar vibe. The service is slow, but their pizza is really good.

Little Dooey’s is famous for barbecue but also has crawfish.

Petty’s (I think is still on HWY 12) is better BBQ than Little Dooey and is the best BBQ in Starkville IMO, but I’m sure a lot will disagree with me.

Restaurant Tyler is good but a bit pricey for what you get if you want a nicer atmosphere than a college bar. Behind Restaurant Tyler is the Guestroom which is a speakeasy bar and is very very cool—great cocktails too.

Oby’s is on Academy Rd off of Montgomery and is classic Starkville college food. I get the crawfish poboy.

There are probably more that have opened since I left or that I’m forgetting, but I think this is a good start.

I went to Harvey's a couple years ago when visiting for a baseball series. I liked the food. The Guestroom is very cool and would be where I go if I am ever back in Starkville.

Do yourself a favor and check out The Guest Room under Restaurant Tyler.

Two Brothers is an established restaurant with a brand new building in the cotton district.

Rick's is meh. Harvey's is better and cleaner.

Little Dooey is a staple, but slightly overrated BBQ. Get the catfish.

The Camphouse has the best burger in town, but Bulldog Burger has a much better atmosphere.

Dave's Darkhorse Tavern for Pizza. The lamb pizza is next level.

Starkville Cafe located in downtown for breakfast.

Stromboli’s is better, IMO.

My wife prefers Stromboli’s, but I’m not a big fan of the sweet dough

Apples and Oranges really. While delicious, their pizza's are more like spatchcock calzones.

All good options said so far but I would also add the best restaurant in the area and possibly the state of MS is 15 minutes away in West Point. Anthony’s good food market will make you slap ya momma

My bad. Would’ve included the Veranda, but it’s closed for good.

Update , we had Georgia blue and absolutely loved it. Great food and a cool set-up. Their courtyard area was awesome with the projector. We also had some BBQ at 1883 smokehouse. That was damn good. When we come in the fall for football we will definitely return to these places. Also, my old saying of ‘I have never met someone from Mississippi that I didn’t like’ is still true. Everyone was so friendly. I enjoyed my trip. I don’t know how folks in Oxford are but as of now for me , out of state and ole miss I lean maroon.

Georgia Blue is pretty good. It's like Mississippi's take on a southern/cajun chain. You need to try 2 brother's next time you're in town. Best BBQ in town imo.

Took my dogs to the vet school out there a few times. A place called Obys or Obies or something was daaaaamn good.

It is Oby's.

They tried to open another franchise years ago in the Dogwood area in Flowood. Ironically enough, I believe that location is now a Georgia Blue.
