Pfizer and Moderna were more effective than J&J in the trials.
It's hard to say for sure which one is better based on when the trials were, where the trials were, and how they determined the efficacy.

quote:

But comparing the efficacy of those vaccines to the efficacy of Johnson & Johnson’s is challenging because of differences in the designs of the Phase 3 clinical tests — essentially the trials were testing for different outcomes. Pfizer’s and Moderna’s trials both tested for any symptomatic Covid infection. Pfizer started counting cases from seven days after receipt of the second dose of vaccine, while Moderna waited until day 14 to start counting cases.

J&J, by contrast, sought to determine whether one dose of its vaccine protected against moderate to severe Covid illness — defined as a combination of a positive test and at least one symptom such as shortness of breath, beginning from 14 or 28 days after the single shot. (The company collected data for both.)

Because of the difference in the trials, making direct comparisons is a bit like comparing apples and oranges. Additionally, Pfizer and Moderna’s vaccines were tested before the emergence of troubling new variants in Britain, South Africa, and Brazil. It’s not entirely clear how well they will work against these mutated viruses.

The J&J vaccine was still being tested when the variants were making the rounds. Much of the data generated in the South African arm of the J&J trial involved people who were infected with the variant first seen in South Africa, called B.1.351.

How do they know Moderna and Pfizer are more effective though? And if they are, why even bother with J&J? Has enough time passed to really know? Why are there competing vaccines? I know I ask a lot of questions, but this is kind of a big deal. Viruses and having vaccines pumped into your body. I mean, shite.

Which vaccine doesn't have competing brands? There are competing flu vaccines, but no one asks which one they are getting when they get their yearly shot.

In this case, there is money to be made and they were being developed at the same time. There's more COVID-19 vaccines that are being tested that just haven't been approved yet.

There's really no point in waiting unless you think a new one will be approved soon that does better against the variants.

Sounds like she likely got the virus before the the vaccine reached its full effectiveness.

None of the vaccines are 100% effective. You would expect some small amount of infections even with the vaccines.

Last week I'd of said you're crazy. And now this week I'm thinking it might be smart to wait.

first found this - not the best but not lunatic crazy DNA bad
and largely references this which is less biased
which led to - passing the brain blood barrier and this which at least appear to reference peer reviewed studies.

So I'm not near as sold on this ounce of prevention being benign, nor actually staying an ounce worth, since it's a only function is replicating what may be this viruses worst habit. Leaving me to weighing the (likely way overblown) death rate, to potential long range damage, to rushing headfirst (sic) into a way too short of study.

Had the first Pfizer shot last weekend.

Already developed a third testicle.

Can’t wait for the next shot.

Taking a vaccine where the disease death rate is not leagues above the vaccine complication rate makes zero sense.
