I never knew KY had issues like that but I wouldn’t advise coming as far south as Louisiana. Just head down to TN. Middle TN in particular. That’s a destination I have in mind for us

I fricking love Alabama, beautiful state. Many of the residents however are a different story. Don't get me wrong there are a lot of amazing people here, but at the same time we were an arse-hair away from sending fricking Roy Moore to DC just because he has an R by his name and said he loves Jesus. The amount of ignorance is staggering.

I've lived and worked out of state before, but Alabama is home. But of course I'm aware that my opinion as a native of the Birmingham area and the only other part of the state I've lived in being Auburn is probably a lot more positive than those from rural areas. Most of the rural towns in the state suck terribly and I don't blame people who grew up in places like that for not liking Alabama.

Alabama has its faults for sure. The productive, self sufficient people of this state are some of the nicest folks in the world. We have lots of trash though

Take all the Roy Moore voters out of this state and youd have a third world situation.

Love the Gamecocks and love South Carolina. Only exception is one tiny little area in the upstate but it's easy to avoid that village.

Beautiful coast, Charleston, Beaufort, all of the history...wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

Agree with all of that.

I grew up in Bham, went to AU, then Atl right after. Spent most of past 15 years in south Florida, but also few in Houston and Atl.

Alabama is a very pretty state. Grew up camping, rappelling, fishing, going to the beach (where my parents moved as soon as I graduated), etc. Know Alabama from North to South it's small towns, cities, etc. Its a nice place to grow up but frankly not so much to spend your life.

And it has a lot of great peeps. But frick, it supports Donald Trump and child molesters. It has a lot of assbackwards people who are afraid to look in the mirror and be honest. They dont want to admit that they are pissed at the man in the mirror and want someone to blame. Like immigrants, black people, liberals, coastal elites, etc.

I just had enough of that bullshite. It's an embarrassment to me though I am proud of many other aspects of the state and its peeps.

Kentucky overall is an underrated state. Lots of beautiful scenery, especially in the bluegrass region and western Kentucky.

Northern Kentucky is really nice as well. Eastern Kentucky is meth capital of the world.

I love parts of my state, not not all of it at all.

I don't despise Alabama but I wouldn't live there again. The weather is not for me, to put it mildly. The scenery is mostly meh and there just isn't a lot of what I like to do. Politics are often flat-out embarrassing.

I realize those are totally subjective and that plenty of people love it. It's just not for me.

Yes. I only go back to Bama to visit family and go to football games. Most of the state is trash. You could not pay me to move back.

I'm rather fond of Arkansas as a state but I will be the first to say the delta region is in horrible shape. Its the land that prosperity forgot. Just soul crushing poverty.

Most of Little Rock isn't bad. Most of the Western half the state is very nice. NW Arkansas kicks all kinds of arse. But somewhere around a third of the state is in horribly dire shape.

Explains much about your political beliefs.

I've lived in Modesto Ca,St Augustine,NJ and Atanta and
I really never "hated" any of those places. It was almost impossible to have a middle class existence in NJ or CA though...means next to nothing to pull a 6 figure salary in and would never move back to either.

At least I'd be able to walk to the car without sweating. The weather in the southeast sucks arse. I'm also not worried about money. I'm a civil engineer, so I can find an ok job. I never want to have kids, so it'll be easier to keep that money. Access to more music out there. It's tough to find anything in Alabama that isn't classic rock, gospel, or country. Etc., etc.

But yes, my politics are closer to those on the west coast than to the southeast. But that barely comes to mind compared to other reasons.

Very true.

Well, true, but that's completely irrelevant to location.

What? What kind of music don't you have "access" to? This statement seems dumb.

I'm assuming he means live music and I'm still baffled. Birmingham has a great music scene, and if you wait long enough then just about any act you could ever want to see will come through town eventually.

And I know that Huntsville, Tuscaloosa, Auburn, Mobile/ Gulf Shores all have solid music scenes and get some big acts too.

And if the big acts, for whatever reason, don't hit those towns then one of Nashville, Memphis, New Orleans, or Atlanta are in easy driving range for pretty much anywhere in the South.

There are reasons to dislike the South, and to love it, but lack of a music scene isn't one of them unless you are bemoaning the lack of polka music.
