Anybody else LOVE their SEC team but really despise the state as a whole?

I’m sure I’m not the only one who really bleeds purple and gold but just can’t stand the state of Louisiana? Is this common for other fan bases? You don’t have to LOVE the state if you just love the team right? I could give two shits about anything non-LSU related going on in this state haha

Pretty much... but... at the same time, I get defensive when other people talk shite.

Kinda like... yeah, my mom might be a bitch, but you best keep your mouth shut about her.

Yep. Moved away a few years ago and haven’t looked back. Honestly kinda regret how long I spent there. Still love the place in a way, though, if that makes sense.

Just trying to make sure it’s possible to love your SEC team but not like the actual state outside of the campus and surrounding areas

I’m partially in your boat... but I wouldn’t say I ‘despise’ Mississippi. I know a lot of good people from there, and I think the perception around the county of Mississippi is far worse than Misssissippi actually is.

I’m in your boat because I’m not from Mississippi, I’ve been all around the ‘Sip, and the only place I ever care to go back and visit is Oxford/Sardis, and Ole Miss. Overall I love my school and don’t care that much for the state.

Other than Auburn and Colbert County you could flush the rest of Alabama south of the Tennessee River down the toilet for all I care.

I like UA a lot, but I hate most of the state of Alabama and pretty much every other state in the southeast.

I still care a little bit because I want the state to get better.

I figured there were others especially from Louisiana Mississippi and Alabama. Those states are always on bad lists for a reason haha

No. I love my State.

In fact, I love all the other SEC States, too.

Ok, what states do you not "hate"?

Just think it's kinda wierd to hate entire states

I wouldn’t say I hate any state I just don’t see much in it for me after college compared elsewhere. The only thing I’d come back for is LSU Games & occasional visits. As for other southeastern states, there’s some I prefer over others but I could never hate them all as a whole unless I lived in each for at least a year a piece.

I hate Alabama but I do still care enough to want the state to do better. It makes me proud when I see the arguments of which cities are better and how Bham suburbs are thought more highly of than some NOLA burbs. Alabama has made some small but noticeable improvements over the past decade or so to separate itself from the real bottom feeders. So I guess that makes me feel a little better about it.

Oh I absolutely agree. Birmingham suburbs blow br and Nola ones out the water. Huntsville is on the up swing way more than anything in LA. The coast is frequented by just as many LA residents as AL residents IMO. The car manufacturing in AL is a plus. Y’all have way more going on positively than we do in the past 5 years or so. Anytime you hear something about LA on the news it’s usually some bad news. I pay attention to other states and I feel like AL is not only winning on the field but as a state too.

There’s a reason Buccees decided to bail on the Louisiana location for a location in south Alabama... yalls leaders are doing good stuff. Props to y’all on that

I don't know, life is pretty damn good for me here in Covington, Louisiana. This has a bit of a Rorschach test feel to it ... some people see beauty and joy, and amplify that; others focus on the (very real) problems that are plain to see.

I definitely don't understand or identify with any instinct to shite on your home state. Since graduating from LSU, I've lived in Boston, Austin and Houston, and I loved every one them, for different reasons. Louisiana has enormous social challenges, like the other states you're targeting, but there is a culture here that is pretty hard not to enjoy. And the people here are without question the most interesting and generous people I've ever known.

Don't think I've ever posted here. Just my two cents.

I can see where you’re coming from. Covington is a pretty nice place. The north shore area is decent. But you really think your opinion on LA would be the same if you didn’t live one of the few actual nice places in the whole state?

I love UK and Lexington but Kentucky, the state, sucks balls. We have one of the most backward, mismanaged and corrupt governments in the country. Government back door deals are rife, welfare dependence is a lifestyle and drug addiction is at epidemic levels.

We currently have the worst Hepatitis A outbreak in the nation amongst our poors, probably from sharing needles. 21% of the population are “disabled” and are on the federal dole. We’re in the top five of fattest states.

Eastern Kentucky is an economic mess because of the coal industry collapse and people continue to move west into central and northern Kentucky, causing high unemployment statistics statewide. Neither President Trump or Gov. Bevin are interested in helping those people transition to new work environments so they just line up at unemployment and welfare offices or occupy corners at busy intersections with their scribblings on cardboard signs begging for drug money.

Makes me want to move to Louisiana sometimes.
