Thanks. I feel a little better about it. Ft. Knox isn't very far away so maybe he was legit.

Could have been a Reservist or Guardsman and if you're near Knox there's a mixture of different units there...an ESC, HRC, Cadet Command and a BCT (3/1 but they're deactivating) so he could have been legit.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, I said these guys are an "epidemic" but I really don't think the type that wear uniforms around are all that common. Most fakers are your garden variety drunks at bars/parties and social networking phonies.

Posers have always been a problem.Social media just makes busting them more fun. I spent 24 years in and I hard ever wear anything that would ID me as a Veteran.

I find that the majority of vets I've run into--whether they served only 4-6 or 30+, tend to be rather low-key about their service in general.

Both my parents are retired military and rarely wear any vet-identifying paraphernalia, either. Not because they're ashamed, but because they don't hang their entire identity on their military careers.

I think that's healthy. Thank you for your service, sir

I was in both camps when it came to the black boots. They were a pain in the arse to shine (until you learned what you were doing) but they looked damn fine when finished.

This.

Kinda miffed I don't get to wear 'em on active duty because I enjoyed (yes, I'm weird ) shining them and they way they looked.

Kinda glad I don't have to worry about them on active duty at the same time tho much more convenient now, I can't even front.

The only actual veterans I've ever known who made a big deal about their service are people who served in peace time Navy or Air Force.

Walking by a girl in a short skirt while wearing spit shined boots

I'm starting to understand why they were changed

I caught a young marine using some boot camp heroic medals in Houston. I waited till his dad was in the bathroom when I said "when you wear medals, maybe you should Google the correct order in wearing them son. In no way is the GWOT EX medal lower than your seas service ribbon let alone the GWOT medal for just serving during the war." His eyes got huge "Also you're not old enough to have received the GWOT Ex medal since they stopped giving those out since 05 or 06 and replaced it with 2 other medals."

I'm not sure what I would do if some jerk was a complete idiot and wearing the 3rd world leader chest.

Usually the easiest way to spot a fake is their beard, but most haven't done any research on their awards at all.

First off, all of you saying you "missed" the old black boots and "enjoyed" shining them must be high. I hated those frickers with a burning passion

Second, I noticed one guy is claiming PTSD due to basic....damn, does that mean everyone that went through Basic can make a VA claim now?

I have not heard of this...but they are now saying you can file a claim if you were in OIF or OEF and pulled shite burning duty. Something about crap burning in kerosene is bad for you it seems.

What does the "A POS" on his zipper tag mean? Because since I know nothing of medals, awards, titles, etc. it just seems too fitting.

I have two good friends who went to the Army. Both were in the 90s and neither saw anything but domestic post duty.

The one who is relatively successful never talks about it.

The one who is a loser douche who can't keep his checking account above water is always talking about his service, patriotism and "defending freedom".

It's the same as the popular football player in high school who never amounted to anything in the real world. They latch on to anything that makes them seem to be successful or important to anything.
