They have been open on the right side of the field, but we have a qb that only looks to or throw to the left side.

There are reasons the WR are not getting the ball...They are not open which is their fault or the QB cant hit them when they are open. Mauk looked like a superstar in "13" when MU had some serious WR position players. Do we now not have any WRers or has Mauk just went down hill the last two years?

Yes the WRs are getting open at times but not where MM is looking or where he thinks they'll be; in a nutshell they're not on the same page YET. Also the WR's don't always take the initiative to run more than their route and find an open spot (see Tyler Hunt's 2 big gains).

MM making poor throws and WR dropping passes in their hands don't help.

All the WRs are basically first year players.
They really haven't had much problem getting open. Dropsies have been a problem, as is the fact that we don't use the middle of the field, and we have the worst run game in FBS.

The answer is separation. These young WR's don't understand that they have to get separation. Leftwitch is the best at it, but he is probably the least talented receiver we have, he just happens to be fast.

Mauk doesn't trust these receivers enough to throw to the tight spaces, because they haven't shown that they can make those catches. The times that he has, the receivers have misread routes and not run full speed to where mauk was throwing the ball.

Mauk looked really gun shy in the UCONN game after the first INT, and who can blame him. His most reliable catcher, Culkin, let a d-back get in front of him, when Culkin should be coming to the ball and making the catch.

There are times when our QB's have missed the open guys, but that will happen to any QB at any level. More times than not though, the receivers are not getting enough space.

Actually, the WR screens are one of the few plays we have executed consistently and you don't do well with those without good blocking from the other WR.

In fact, I'd expect a TON of them this weekend for two reasons.

1. I expect us to draw back the playbook and focus on things that have worked.

2. UK plays a defense that is conducive to throwing them.

The outside runs are actually the only aspect of the run game that have kind of worked.

I don't think mauk goes through his progressions like he should. He's also late on some throws. His timing to hit open recievers is off. I think he has trust issues with them and they do with him. When your late on throws, I think some receivers start to get lazy at times with their routes.

Oh, no hope until either mauk gets his game on or they go with Lock.

Yes. Watching the last two weeks gives me a sick feeling with conference play starting. If we cant figure out how to generate some offense, whether with outside runs or screen passes (which have kinda worked), or with a running game (Hans?? If he back this weekend?) or getting receives who can catch... this weekend may be the first of many losses. Defense wins, yes. But you have to score points, and we struggled to do that with UConn and arky lite.

Man, you guys worry way too much.

UCONN will be by far the worst offensive game we play all year. I don't get why people think we are destined to repeat it?

I think it's more on Maty Mauk than the WR's at this point. He holds the ball way to long on intermediate or less throws.

What does open look like? Because from my vision our receivers have been open. Whether that's beating press coverage and gaining inside position on a slant or having just that one step on a fade to give an opportunity for our receiver to make a play with the ball in the air.

Mauk takes these weird 8 step drops that give the defense a chance to correct themselves when in certain situations it should be as easy as planting your back foot and take advantage of the defense.

If Mauk is trying to process to much right now, he is going through a lot outside of football, then we need to make things easier for him and basically throw screens, outs to the left hash, and please use our 6'6 TE in the seam. We have one of the biggest advantages from a pure physical matchup perspective why can't that be a security blanket.

Because it seems pretty typical of the three performances we've seen this year?

Not really. I mean Mauk threw for 3 TDs and ran for 75 yards against AR ST. Scored 3 times as many points. Not that we've been great, but I just think it's funny everyone projecting 9 points for the rest of the season.

We shall look back on this and laugh my friends. We have issues of course, but we are nowhere near that bad.

This season has shown the margin of error there is in football. This offense is very close to being at least a mediocre offense.

Couple of examples:
Leftwich was targeted on 3 deep passes. All 3 times had a few steps on the defenders. Overthrown once, under thrown twice. All 3 would have probably been touchdowns, easily could of added 150 yards passing.

UCONN was content to let MIZZOU go to the outlet receivers. Hunts catch and run was an example of utilizing this, but that pass was available all day long.

I don't agree. Mauk has really crappy timing, and when he misses a desired read, he tries to extend the play with running. This breaks down the offensive scheme and now we have young WRs trying to anticipate where he's going to throw. It's become a backyard game against real defenses.

Mauk has talent, but he's become too focused on the long-developing, big payoff plays. That internal clock doesn't appear to be well developed so he seems to defer his decisions to the improvisation stage. Unfortunately, long throws late in a play are a recipe for more pf Missouri's current offense.
