As DC with an Assistant Head Coach title and pay raise?

At this point I can't see where going to Illinois is anything but a career death wish.

If he goes, I would guess he got some encouragement.

Tomorrow’s headline “Walters signed to extension at Mizzou with salary increase and and $13MM buyout”

From Football Scoop, re: DC at Illinois:

"Bielema’s been conducting interviews with Missouri’s Ryan Walters, Oklahoma State’s Jim Knowles and Wofford’s Josh Conklin."

Decision likely tomorrow.

I highly doubt it. If so then I would guess he may have been asked to look for a landing spot. I just can’t see this. I would think it’s highly likely he is the DC at Mizzou next year

How can he be coming back when he's interviewing for a lesser job? I get trying for the CU HC gig but Illinois DC? Doesn't this seem like Drink being a good guy by not outright firing him?

1. I don’t know that he’s interviewed. Football Scoop is not always totally reliable.

2. If he was fired, he’d be fired.

Who would be better that would come to Mizzou as DC?

I think the logic here is that Drinkwitz told him to start looking so that they don't have to fire him. This way he gets a pay raise and a clean slate to start somewhere else. The speculation would then move to who Eli has tapped for DC.

That's a good bet. And, if true, I think Drink has a replacement all but signed and announced.

Ok, but what happens if Walters doesn’t get this job?

If Walters is gone

I'm thinking his departure gets spun as mutually agreeable.

I think Drink already has his next DC lined up

For the Illinois job? He's arguably the best candidate from the list..

Missouri’s Ryan Walters
Oklahoma State’s Jim Knowles
Wofford’s Josh Conklin
