As Fodder stated in another thread, the spring portal might be the time to get a QB that moves rhe needle. If the staff decides to run it 40 times a game and throw hole shots to Johnson and Manning, that's certainly in Horn's wheelhouse.
The players that the staff has landed so far were very productive last year. They aren't grad students looking for a place to get on the field or high potential underclassmen buried on a depth chart. I like their model so far.

If Horn is ready, he needs to play. To recruit good QBs, you need to play good recruits. I suspect this is the plan. If we're looking for anything, it's a backup taller than Pyne.

That plan works as long as Mizzou is playing the UMass's of the world. There is not 1 SEC team that excels without good QB play. All one has to do is look at Pavia and Vanderbilt, vs OU with Arnold.
We don't know what Horn's wheelhouse is, he hasn't played and he is coming off injury. The staff saying "he is ready" means nothing. They weren't all in on Moss because they thought Horn was ready. And there is the issue of playing baseball. If Horn or Pyne start it's only an admission that they missed on a quality QB.

Again, the idea that Horn isn't a quality QB is crazy talk ... his scouting report from 247:
"Excellent height for the position with a moldable frame. Baseball background. A true gunslinger equipped with a live arm that’s always looking to make a play. Simple delivery motion, releasing over-the-top. Puts plenty of pace on the ball, but also understands how to use touch. Can make a variety of different throws. Mobile athlete with the foot quickness to escape the rush. Relatively accurate on the move. Will make people miss in the open field. Needs to take better care of the football and cut down on the interceptions. Must also improve timing and get better at working through his progressions. Highly productive at the prep level playing in a pass-happy system. Helped carry his team to the state finals as a junior playing in one of the Peach State’s highest classifications. Has the looks of someone that will develop into a starter at a Power 5 program. Tools and athletic profile suggests that he has a chance to play on Sundays."
if he doesn't have TJ last year, I guarantee he takes over for Cook (when injured) this last season and we probably make it a game at Alabama/A&M, win at South Carolina and are on the cusp of the playoff.
Pyne, I'll concede, shouldn't be in any conversation beyond grad student, 3rd string emergency water boy ...

Why the hell is Horn effing around with baseball?

You have no idea if he's qualified. 24/7 reporting means less than nothing. 24/7 said Jackson Arnold and Weigman were great. Only 30% of the surefire HS kids even play on a consistent basis for a D1 team.
So even without baseball, arm injury and lack of field time, Horn only had a 30% chance of playing for us. Stop acting like Horn is a generational talent. He was a high rated recruit for Mizzou. Bama, Ohio State, Texas and others process QBs with the same rating or better every season.
I'm not saying Horn may not turn out to be a great player, I hope he does. But the fact is, the staff wanted Moss as a bridge to a freshman, Horn didn't figure into it. The only reason Horn is a topic now is because they missed on Moss and must not feel good about the PSU guy.

The only reason we were talking to any QBs was in case Horn said "I'm playing baseball and if I get drafted in the top 3 rounds, I'm going to the MLB ..."
Evidently that's not his plan, for now.
And I agree, Horn could be a bust cause he might not have matured yet. That was really the knock on him here in GA recruiting circles.
Btw, the PSU guy was never going to be QB1. If he was, I'd renounce my fandom of Mizzou football.

I believe Ole Miss is getting him. Go check the transfer portal for Penn St. It shows going to Ole Miss 100%.

Actually it is not that simple. They very well may think Horn has what it takes BUT…due diligence says to get another QB. This idea that teams only have 1 QB in the hole is crazy, good teams stack talent.

Malachi Nelson is a former 5* and ranked 13th overall that signed with USC in the 2023 class. Nelson had a lot of potential coming out of high school, but he’s not had a chance to play. He has played behind 3 good QB’s Caleb Williams and Miller Moss at USC and Maddux Madsen at Boise State. He could be a steal in the portal. He’s ranked as the 27th best QB in the portal, so he would be cheap. Would love to see him at Mizzou.
After playing behind QB’s Williams and Moss he transferred to Boise State. It was a surprise when Nelson lost the starting QB job to Madsen. Madsen pushed out Arkansas QB Taylen Green too. In 2023 Madsen started the season as Green’s backup, but by the end of the season they were splitting snaps
Madsen has 2 years of eligibility left and after leading Boise to the 4 seed in the playoffs Nelson has to transfer to be a starting QB.

Going after Moss was obviously with the intent of him starting with a bridge to Zollers. Horn hasn't been cleared to participate in football activities yet and baseball is the priority for him. So how in the world can they be convinced he's the starter next year?
I would bet the coaches see Zollers as the starter over Horn if docs clear the ankle. Zollers has the stronger arm and will be football FT.

There is next to zero chance we start a Freshman QB, who wouldn't have played a game in a year, in the SEC.
Posted on 12/20/24 at 3:37 pm to SEC. 593
Why? Horn has thrown 2 passes and started zero games. Zollers and Horn have the same SEC experience NONE.

Horn will 2 full offseasons of work vs an SEC defense. They happen to share the same locker room.

I’ve been wondering if Green kicks out to Tackle next season. Adding interior depth could give him that option.
