I can't believe that this Mack Rhoades hire really inspires any optimism whatsoever.

Very similar, but Barry has a D-II team (see MO State game)...while Kimbo had a D-III squad (see all games).

Odom still has more talent to work with than KA.

He's just got no goddamn clue how to coach them, movtovate them, or otherwise.

KA also didn't shoot himself in the dick his first year revamping the D system for no reason.

It’s frankly unbelievable.

Odom knows football, I guess.

He just doesn’t know how to run things.

I believe Odom is a victim here. Had Rhoades not had 1 foot out the door and was really doing a search, we have Matt Rhule and BO is at Memphis learning the ropes of being a HC. His coaching career is on the upswing. Now because of Rhoades, no AD can sell BO to his boosters as a HC hire. He effectively starts over. This debacle with the Mizzou defense may even mean he doesn't land a DC job. He could be starting over as a position coach.

I can't blame BO for preferring the Mizzou job over Memphis, but in his development as a HC Memphis would have been the smarter choice. All this misery because Rhoades didn't do his job.

I would still bet that BO ends up as the DC at a school like Tennessee next season. There’s a big difference between being HC and DC

He’s not a victim. He’s being paid $2M for OJT.

Another parallel between BO and KA They're both victims..... horseshite

They are both homegrown failures as HC's..... Victims????? Not even close.

After his declaration that he is running the defense in the middle of last year, how could any coach sell BO as his DC to the UT fanbase? Plus lets be honest, what up and coming defensive position coach is hitching their career to Odom?

I'm betting LB coach just like Randy Shannon.

I get what you're saying, but his name is going to be toxic when it comes to hiring him. when he really should be at Memphis building his name.

Has Rhule even won a game yet with Baylor?

Nope, Not saying Rhule would have torn it up at Mizzou. But Rhoades had Rhule lined up to come to Mizzou until he sand bagged us and pocketed Rhule until he got the Baylor AD job.

Point is, the better course would have been the Memphis job. But can you really blame BO for taking the Mizzou job? But any AD that actually gave a damn doesn't offer him the job.

I just hope Mizzou is done with the "true son" experiment that gained momentum following Mike Anderson's move to Arky. I'd rather lose a good coach than be stuck with a loyal, bad one.

Of course I don't blame Odom taking the job. No one turns down a SEC job at his alma mater to stay at Memphis. That being said, Rhule has sucked every bit as much as Odom has. Rhoades likely called Herman. Then Herman didn't even bother picking up the phone once he looked at his caller ID because he knew he would get a better job if he waited another year.

Yeah can't blame Odom for taking the job. Just know Barry that once the season is over, pack your shite up and leave.

An unfortunate tweet on the subject.

LINK

I hope the coaching staff isn’t seeing who likes what or a TE may be sitting a game or two.

Who should we have hired?

Does Rhule, Dykes or Campbell get any of you guys fired up?

Just get it right this time.

That's a fair point. I would have been OK with Rhule or Campbell at the time, but neither have gotten off to good starts. I didn't want anything to do with Dykes.

It was unfortunate timing. Pinkel really left us in the lurch, and it shouldn't have been like that. We should have been in a much better position.
