I was reading this Dave Matter chat LINK on the Post-Dispatch website and couldn't believe how many people bitched about Maty Mauk getting a series. Most thought his entrance killed momentum in the A&M game. Huh??

I love it and think it's one of Gary Pinkel's more innovative ideas, particularly when the back-up has skills like Mauk.

IMO more often than not, MM provides a spark and challenges defenses in different ways than Franklin.

What are the opinions around here? Like? Dislike? Meh? What 'cha got?

I thought Franklin played far better after Mauk's time in. They were completely stagnant up until that point. Mauk pulled his patented run backward for 20 yards and get sacked play and killed the series. But Franklin played better the rest of the game. It worked.

Yeah. They're gonna have to beat the backward scrambling out him, but you're exactly right on Franklin before and after.

I wonder if Pinkel has the guts to do it in the SECCG? If the team needs a lift, it'll be a no brainer. If it's close or we come out the gate clicking, I could see him taking a pass.

I have no problem with it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. In the OM game, he led the team on a 75 yard scoring drive. I just don't like it if it's scripted exactly what series it will be. Don't force it. Let the game situation dictate when you do it, not something you wrote on paper a week before the game.

I'd like to see more than 1 MM rotation.

I have no problem with it. I hope Pinkel gives him a series in the SECCG. In fact, I wouldn't mind 2 series for Mauk, as Wtodd suggested.

I seriously think it will depend on the game as some posters have said above. If it feels like the offense is stuck in the mud and needs a jumpstart then why not give Maty a drive to see what happens.

JMHO but it's an okay idea for this year. Doesn't do a lot, certainly not a negative. Maty doesn't turn the ball over so that's not an issue and he has led them on a scoring drive. Don't see a problem with it.

The more he plays in big games this year, the more prepared he'll be next year.

I didn't see Mauk slow down anything in the aTm game. His series was just not effective. They were already playing tight. I think Mauk loosens things up a bit. He's a bit of a character.

I think you have to put him in for a series or two. He's earned the right to some playtime.

I have no problem with it. BUT, I really hated giving him the series after the turnover when we were in great field position. I would be fine with letting him have the first possession of the game and then letting Franklin do the rest! But either way, 11-1, SECCG, shot at a NT or at least BCS Bowl....not arguing with decisions HCGP makes at this point

This nails it...if Frank is rolling let him roll. If not Maty coming in for a series isn't the worst thing that could happen.

I have no problem at all with it. He likes going down field and he stretches the field more than Franklin does.

I was at the Ole Miss game and on the way home I was listening to the Ole Miss post game show. They were amazed about Mauk's 60 yard completion and that he did not play again. SEC teams do not see a lot of quality passing attacks. Mauk brings more of a down field presence than Franklin does

Approve.
Love him getting meaningful game action. This will help next year. If MM gets into a game in the 1st half and Frank gets hurt and he has to come back in later that can only help as well.
IF Frank leads them on consecutive scoring drives I do not want them to jerk with that though.

I like it as long as it works, but I reserve my right to cry like a bitch if he comes in and throws a pick on his possession.

This is what Pinkel does when he has a kid who he thinks is really good.

Mauk playing a series against other teams is one the reasons he could come in against Georgia and do well. Otherwise, he might have been scared out of his mind with the game coming too fast.

He is young. Sometimes he will play really well (like at Ole Miss, where he moved the ball well and our receiver dropped his TD pass) and sometimes he will mess up, like against A&M where he didn't throw the ball away and killed our momentum.

But the experience helped him this year to get better, and all of this combined experience will aid him as next year's starter.

Next year, I expect Printz to get a series of snaps each game like Mauk did this year.
