Simmons, Lee, Olugbode, Green and Work carried the offense.
Roberts, Goodie, the interior oline, TE Room, and special teams allowed kU to stay in a game that should have been a blowout at half time.
I thought the defense got it done. 14 points allowed. Marshall never looked comfortable and for good reason with Batoon's front 7 producing 29 total pressures (19 QB hurries, 6 QB hits, 4 Sacks). Hopkins had his breakout game and was the highest graded defender. Webb and Simpson stood out at DT. Robert Woodyard had two takeaways. Darris Smith was continually around the ball. Banner, Graves, Florence, and Laulea had coverage grades of 64 or higher.
Great win a lot of things to clean up before SEC play.

Rodriguez was in on a lot of plays, in the 1st half especially.

His tackling and coverage need to improve, especially early in the game. He is a little reckless until the adrenaline wears off

Hopkins is really impressive with his burst and ability to dip/rip.

Kansas's qb looked awful. This should have been a wider margin victory.

It's too early iMO. Special teams can easily get better, and quickly.
The underrated takeaway was that Austin looks to be protecting himself from taking bad hits and that's exactly how I want him to play especially how we have gotten our qbs injured each year.

Aside: on the Rant, one of the Rantards described the game as "casually walking into your backyard with a .410 and shooting the possum that won't stay out of your trashcan".

Yea. Simmons doesn’t take necessary risks with his body. Thats how you stay healthy and productive alll season long.
Roberts can’t run the OZ zone. There’s a reason more than Hardy being elite that he was the change up. Edwards needs to be the primary. He has the lateral quickness to reach the edge and hits speed after cuts much faster.
Oooga Booga needs to solve his drops issues.
D should be better against less mobile QBs but we a lot of mobile QBs in this conference.

Batoon going wide 9 with both Hopkins and Smith in the 4th qtr was awesome. Hopkins, Smith, and Jones all had PR win rates over 16%. Hopkins was 23% which is elite. Donta Simpson was at 10% which is really good for a tackle.

I agree, Edward's skillset seems to work better with this offensive line. He has better vision and lateral movement. Don't know about his receiver skills, when you watch HCU highlights, his QB never checks down to him.

This was a good win for several reasons.
Saw several things to like consistently throughout the game, especially from the defense. Play we can work with and build on.
And it came against a functional D1 team. This was not a win over the JV or freshmen team that many non-con games can feel like. Good plays in that game were real.
And plenty of mistakes for the coaches to use to keep practices productive for the next few weeks.
I hope what we saw from the O Line in the second half is the real O-Line play. They seemed to clean things up after halftime, but it may have been the Beakers D-line wearing out.
I thought Hopkins might take a step this year at DE. I hope he and Smith can keep moving the needle up.
Norfleet seems to have the tools to be special at TE. Sure wish he would just take the next step.
Hope the glimpse we saw from Simpson at DT becomes the norm. More depth on the D-Line wil be needed for the SEC.

Wilson is really struggling blocking OZ right now. He had a least two false starts and is allowing penetration/cant get into the second level. Kansas ran a lot of heavy box but at some point it becomes about whipping the guy across from you. They ran more duo in the second half which helped the run game but if he doesnt improve running stretch, there won't be much butter on the bread.
I would add that Peagler isnt doing much better in the run game right now. The middle of the line really needs to take a big step run blocking before Starkville.

No. He is what he is. He is weak blocking his position and is weak at and after the catch.
Im pretty unimpressed by the job Atkins has done with the TE room overall. None of them are blocking at an elite level so far. Im pretty sure that first blocked FG was completed on Harris. There was a lot of talk about that room in camp and none of it has made on the field so far.

Frustrating. A weak TE room is a big wasted opportunity.
And for the program that produced Winslow, Rucker, Coffman, Egnew, Albert O, and others, it burns a bit.

The O-Line was fine. Didn't Simmons have exactly 0 pressures?
