Didn’t read your whole post, but did notice your comments about Lock as a FRESHMAN. Key word there. Moore tapped out with 90 seconds to play his last collegiate football game. Big difference.

Recruiting athletes that are very good at there high school position is a great way to have a very good small college team. To be a very good in a P5 achool you need atheletes that can play all over the field.

LB’s that can cover TE’s, safeties that can cover WR and blitz, DE that can move inside to stop the run.

A QB is the one position that is needed to have experience in high school.

And that’s fine. You can call him immature or a player that has reached his ceiling, but using words like “thug” puts players, particularly black ones, in a space outside of football when we talk about character. Especially when you have individuals defining thuggish tendencies as a player who:

1. Talks trash
2. Gets in Skirmishes
3. Celebrates win or lose

Also, Drew Lock still does the things I mentioned except fumble the snap from center. Have we seen Drew Lock’s ceiling?

Maybe/Maybe Not. Maybe he is a less than 60% passer with questionable decision making skills, can only make one read, and who will leave with a sub- 500 record as QB.

Time will tell.

This newfound sensitivity for the word “thug” is tiresome.

Then you are tone deaf. Not as much on this board, but read the rest of rant. Thug has absolutely become a stand-in for nigg*r.

Unless you find the sensitivity to that word tiresome also. Again, read the rant. Many feel quite put upon that they can not freely use that word.

tiresome

I knew there was a double standard when it came to the "Thug" description. But I guess you're right, it is used more of a social put down to black players. Not quite Nigg*r, but it makes the same point.

Look at the number of times it is applied to a white player that does something 'thuggish'.
Almost never.
Outside of that look at the way it is used and the context it is used in. Could not be more obvious.

The problem is that people get sensitive to it being used correctly.

I don’t think it applies to Jmon so I can empathize with the point there. Suh? Thug POS

but how many times have you seen it applied to a white boy? I think I've seen once, although I've seen thuggish behavior plenty of times.

once it becomes a stand-in, I don't know if it can be used without that connotation. Easier just to use arse, or bully, or something that hasn't developed a racial connotation. ThugPOS is kind of course and useless as a label anyway. No big loss.

I think just the opposite. when describing Suh or the Bama kid who punched the coach on national tv,"Thug" is appropriate because it reflects actions.

But it's spreading to social behavior which is almost exclusively slanted toward black players. That's where I think the problem is.

This is a thug in my opinion or maybe just a guy with an attitude problem. What makes it so bad is that Saban put this knucklehead back in the game.

I think you’re not looking.

Kelly Olynyk
Matthew Dellavedova
Zaza Pachulia
Rob Gronkowski
Richie Incognito

That’s a bit off the top of my head.

Tangentially, an NFL player gets arrested about every 7 days. Usually for assault, DUI,
drugs, disorderly conduct or domestic violence. If they’re wondering why they’re being labeled thugs, there are some easy answers.

I agree with this.

Suh the crotch stomper is definitely a thug.

Richie Incognito is probably the poster boy of white boy thugs in the NFL and as I’ve said, Gronk is earning such a reputation himself.

Anytime you go after a player with the intent to injure is thuggish is general. Not talking clean plays. I mean patently dirty ones. Even more so after the whistle.

Saban has had a few such guys.

We all remember that POS clown that supplexed Witter (Or was it Russell?) a few years back.

Probably.
I have seen it used more lately just to mean thug.
A year ago it was pretty much used to mean n*gger (at least out on the rant).
Still makes it tricky.

Given it’s The Rant, that’s entirely believable. Even more so given what’s usually vomited out by the Deep South FB fans on SDS’s Facebook posts. Doubly so if it involves anything Missouri related.

I was surprised about that too! I figured Saban would have sent him to the locker room!

Since this post has stooped to the lowest of levels, and now we have to describe what a “Thug” is.....you people are unbelievable.

First off, the term “thug” has no color attached to it for me, and shouldn’t for you!..I’m not a PC person, and I’m sick of people trying to be that way! If your puss is hurt because someone called you a “thug” you probably deserved it, and should try to improve yourself so it doesn’t happen again! When people do stupid things, morally unacceptable things, law breaking things, on or off the football field can be construed as a “THUG” It’s just a term no different than “punk....trash....dope...or whatever description you would like to attach to it. I’ve seen “white trash thugs” more than I ever wanted to. I’ve seen “black thugs” I’ve seen young and old thugs, female and male thugs, and it doesn’t matter to me which one you are, if you’re a thug, you’re just a thug!
So get over the “WORD” and move on to defending the conversation!
