Odom has alluded to a lack of talent several times

While he's not necessarily wrong, there is better talent on this team than they've shown. If he can't win with these type of players then he sure as hell better pick it up on the recruiting trail.

One thing we'll never be able to afford here is stupid football. We have to play a clean game. We can't afford turnovers, dumb penalties, etc but that's how we play.

He's a rookie and some of this should have been expected, but the worst part is it's not improving.

He needs to have a real come to Jesus with himself. He's neither experienced or proven enough to be stubborn.

When he is talking lack of talent, is he in the players locker room or the coaches?

All guys who were here last year, most of which had some small part in a top 10 or top 5 defense. They all have a year's worth of maturity, learning and developing.

Nope. frick you wiBO. It's not lack of talent that put over 50 points on you today. It's you and your damn staff. See fricking Ricker and learn.

Odom is full of shite then. And an idiot for saying that. No wonder players don't trust his garbage RR system.

We had basically 3 first round Dlineman going into this year, and tot his point, he's made all three look like virtual nobodies. I'm wondering how much he's hurt their draft stock.

Maybe Odom can't win without premium talent, even against Conf-USA players. If so, he can't coach then.

Tell us what, I guess I never appreciated HCGP enough.
He never put up with fumblers or consistent penalty makers and dropers of the football.

Not to mention all these PFs. It's sickening. No control on this team.

Love how after the LSU game it was consenses on this board that Mizzou is lacking in talent but now that the coach said it, all of a sudden Mizzou is loaded with talent.

They lack talent in a few areas for sure, I think the DBs and LBs are really really bad. This team misses Brothers more than any other person.

The OLine isn't terrible, the RB situation with Crockett is looking bright, Lock is....welll Lock.

The truth, and people might not want to admit to this, is when we left the Big 12 we started recruiting the South, and in my opinion that was a huge mistake. We should have kept recruiting Texas.

It isn't that hard.

Compared to LSU their talent is lacking.
Compared to a C-USA team they are (or should be) loaded with talent.

Good coaching schemes to the talent on hand.
Odom has failed spectacularly on this premise.

And somewhere in south Florida Craig Kuligowski is LHAO.

I agree and questioned it at the time.

At least wiBO has decided to acknowledge and correct it.

So give us some analysis here Nuke.

It can't be as simple as not buying in mentally, can it?

As an aside... I read someone over on the P-D board quoting BO saying "we don't have the talent to play shootouts", while the offense he's installed intends to create shootouts!

Pretty damn funny if it weren't true.

Brady and Brothers are gone. Those are big losses. At one point in the second half MTSU ran the same play 4 times in a row. Each time Williams the DE ran himself out of the play. S DE opposite Harris would make a big difference. So would a sure tackler like Brothers. Coaching also needs to get better.

The team IS lacking in talent, at least compared to other SEC teams.

The conference switch coincided with Pinkel & co. slacking off. A big mistake was not sticking with Texas talent.

You can see this right now - how many juniors and seniors are any good? Last year was representative of the talent deficiency, playing a true freshman QB with a WR corps that can't get open or catch would be something I expected in 2003, not 2015. Mizzou is starting a true freshman at MLB and the dropoff is negligible.

The youngsters will have to grow up fast or losses like yesterday will be the norm.

He's still able to multitask and laugh his arse off at the state of our Defense.

Undisciplined play has been an issue all year. Regardless of the scheme, you have to break down when you are in position to make a tackle. Newsom is the first guy that comes to mind but the number of missed tackles when players are in position to make plays is unacceptable.

Cheadle and Frazier aren't alone in committing bad penalties but both kept the defense on the field. Cheadle's technique should have put him in a position to make a play on that ball. Instead, his atrocious footwork let a WR that runs a 4.7 get behind him and he took a penalty for it. Frazier should have had his hands in the air and forced an early release and gave the secondary a shot a the ball. Instead he gave us his best Shane Ray impersonation and got ejected.

As to the scheme, it's one of two things 7 games in: They aren't smart enough to make their own reads or they aren't committed/putting in the time to learn the keys. MTSU doesn't run a very complicated offense. Its an open grass concept. Multiple times the defense obliged MTSU by the way the guys lined up after making their read. The combined play of the LBs and DEs is terrible.

Remember the days, when MU was competitive every year, in football, and basketball????

Oh what a few years can change.

HOWEVER, I'm still optimistic with our new AD. Here's hoping he can make the changes we need and soon.

Football = shite Show
Basketball = shite Show.

He has his work cut out for him

It really doesn't matter what the reason is at this point, only the result. If Odom thinks this team sucks, and it's obvious he does then he better be hitting the recruiting trail HARD and getting guys he thinks can play.

The simple fact of the matter is he better start winning. We've bottomed out and it's very hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I'd be more encouraged if he didn't look as if he's going to be stubborn about "what we do". Like I said earlier, he doesn't have the equity to pull that card. "What we do" is not working. Something needs to change, and if it's the players as he believes, then go get better ones.

Spoken like a person who has never been responsible for root cause analysis. At the end of the season, he is going to have to go to Sterk with a list of things that are/were wrong and how he is going to fix them. His answers are going to dictate how much rope Sterk is going to give him.

And that's his responsibility, not a poster on a message board.

When I say it doesn't matter the reason, I'm speaking from my perspective. The scheme blows arse and has ruined this season. That can't be argued. If he's going to stubbornly stick with something that isn't working, then I don't want to hear excuses about having bad players. If that's the case go get better ones. If that's not the case, install a scheme that doesn't fricking suck.

Go win football games or be out of a job. The why doesn't matter because whatever the why is it's his job to get it fixed. I'm sure when he meets with Sterk following the season his reason for having a shite season will be that the previous staff left him shite players. Sterk's only response to that can be go get better ones.
