Yeah it doesn't mean much and it won't mean much until I see a game, but in particular, I saw the corners that looked absolutely soft. Which is what I've been concerned about anyway. And the running backs went through the linebackers like they weren't there. Which they didn't seem to be cause they were out of position. Maybe the RB's are just so amazing they blew the LB's off of them by 5 yards. I hope the D looks awesome when they play Carolina. Seriously. Whatever.

He looks like a got damn prophet. Not sure why you’re laughing at him.

Jesus man, you are tiring. We, make that even YOU, were talking about before the season.

Most were saying that before the year.

In other words, some live in reality. Others pump sunshine. If the secondary is good, I'd say as much. If they're not good, I'm not gonna fool myself much less try to fool others.

I'm laughing at the absurdity of anyone thinking they can glean anything from clips from a scrimmage, but you know that.

Well, that was then. Now I'm laughing that anyone would think that thread is proof of people defending the secondary when in fact it's very obvious that the "shite he was taking" had absolutely zero to do with his conclusion. Only how he came to it, but you know that.

He qualified his conclusion.

And he was right.

So I’m going to award him 5 points and you zero.

Beckner and Logan dominated between the B gaps yesterday. That makes Hall and Garrett a lot better.

Agree. Logan pulls the doubles off Beckner and suddenly TB has space. That kid can move!

Logan plays a lot of two gap technique and does far superior job reading zone action. He isn't getting washed out of his gap by combos allowing the OG into the 2nd level. Garrett is still physically limited in pass coverage but he can play downhill as long as the NG isn't in his lap.

I would like to see what Tavon Ross could do for a while.

I can’t figure out Ross. He’s been a star on special teams for 2 years know. When he plays he doesn’t miss tackles, he made a key tackle on the goal line stand yesterday but he can’t climb past 3rd on the depth chart.

I would like to see him get a shot at safety next season along with Prewett and Perkins. He also seems like a guy that should get a 6th year due to injuries.

I like Ross but his weight as a run force player is a concern. SLB in this scheme is kind of like the FB on offense. Taking on a lead blocker/pulling OL doesn't show up on a personal stat sheet but when the the assignment is missed, it shows up in big plays. Newsom was outstanding, but he also weighed 235 lbs. Ross with all of his equipment on and couple of rocks in his pocket might break 210. That is tough sledding when you are in the box.

The defense was not prepared to start the season.

Im really starting to think Cross was a serious liability and the last year and a half terrible defense was mostly because of him. I think we're seeing more of an Odom defense now, but it's hard to say because the competition is terrible.

Missouri State and Purdue were maybe two of the poorest defensive showings I've ever seen.

The secondary and LB’s are having a extremely bad year. Part of this is do positioning/coaching, experience, and talent.

I believe what has hurt them the most is the Dline. If you can’t get to the QB or stop the RB at the line it will cause the LB’s to play up and the safeties and DB’s to focus not just on the WR’s and TE’s, but what the Dline can’t control.

In the last two years before the season Mizzou has lost Brantley, Howard, Loud, Brady, Logan for six games, and I might be missing some.

We may have weak LB’s, safties, and DB’s, but the Dline is the biggest problem. The Dline has been the strongest part of the defense in the past, but the last 2 years it has exposed the entire defense.

This can't be overstated. IF we don't lose these guys, things are a ton better IMO.

Every team loses guys every year. Odom has been recruiting the defense for 3 years. Not a viable excuse.

Trying to replace experienced players with freshman and RS freshman will hurt any program. Many posters are blaming the DB’s, S, and LB’s on the lack of production by the defense. It is a entire defensive problem which starts with the DL. To believe you can win games with players that have little to no experience and with even less experienced back ups is not caused with recent recruiting. None of the players dismissed from the program was recruited by BO.

I am not completely sold on BO as head coach, but he does have the coaching style of an SEC team. GP style was focused more on a Big 12 style team (out score your opponent). This is one of the main reasons GP had trouble playing against Oklahoma.

I believe giving BO 4 to 5 years is reasonable to see if he can accumulate to a SEC defensive style team and a offense that can keep its defense off the field. Mizzou is not going to be a top 25 recruiting team very often. He will need to coach up his defensive recruits to compete in the SEC. The last few years he has not had the chance to coach up his players he is just plugging in new recruits.

If wouldn’t say that’s true about GP. From 2010 on Mizzou was a better defensive team than offensive.

It’s also true that having 3 of the likely 4 2 deep at DE getting kicked off the team in recent years has had a big impact on this defense.

True the defense was better after the 2009 season. That is when Steckel became the DC. Steckel maybe not be successful as head coach at Mo State, but he was a good DC under Pinkel after coaching LB’s for many years.
