You remember incorrectly.
The secondary was always the main concern coming into the season. Now that doesn't mean that everyone was running around saying that all of our players are the worst to ever suit up, but it was overwhelmingly the biggest area of concern on this board and elsewhere.

I remember getting an entire thread of shite from nearly everyone when I said the CB's and LB's didn't look good in the highlight vids

In everyone’s defense, there was no way to predict that our defense was going to be dog shite under Odom.

Jesus, I could go on forever but I think you get the picture. Yes, there were a number of people who were defending this secondary before the season, saying some of them would be drafted this year, saying they were better than last year's and so on.

Again, you confuse liking a secondary with not saying "ZOMG!!!! THESE DUDES SUCK!!!"
There is a whole in between those two extremes.
Since you are digging posts up, go find the official record prediction where I predicted 5-7 and specifically referenced the weak secondary as the reason.

You're digging up posts from months before the season and you have this mental block where it's hard for you to get around the fact that some posters aren't overtly negative all the time and prefer to talk about positive aspects if they can.

AJ definitely had an impact bc like you said it takes some heat off of Beckner. With that said I think TB is taking fewer plays "off". I also think its just taken time for BO to find the right formula; schemes and getting guys in the right position. I think all the Spring & Summer practices gave him a false impression on what the younger guys could do. Anyway that's my take.
