Will he? I don't know. Depends on how he gets there.

Could he? Sure.

There is no doubt that BO is still in the show me stage and he will sign an extension that reflects just that.

“Earning an extension”is not what this is about. It’s about showing support and solidarity for coach Odom, so recruits will want to come here. The amount of the raise and buyout are minimal.
Getting a raise of 3 million more per year by going 13-0 and winning a natty, now that’s “Earning an extension” and a pay raise. This is merely formality. Nothing has really changed. If he goes 4-8 next year, he’ll be right back on the hot seat.

Odom is the lowest paid coach in the SEC, he does deserve a bit of a raise.

A bit isn’t $700k per. He’s also the least experienced head coach in the league.

Luke just got $3 million from Mississippi. He has less experience. Every other coach makes more than that.

Pretty good chance that MSU and Tennessee hure first time HC’s.

Early reports had Luke as the lowest paid SEC head coach. $9M for 4 years.

ETA: he made just over $1M for the past year.

They’re overpaying him by about $1.5M.

And they also bring in about $10M more in athletic department revenue.

CM brought experience. BO had none

Also let's compare the two coaches/saleries after CM's second year

Bass,

Don't take the bait. A few of these clowns have no idea how the contract extension works. Mizzou is about to make the same mistake alot of schools make. Overreact to an average performance with an extension, fire the coach in 1-2 years, and then ask us for a little bump in donations to payoff the coach that was just fired. It's getting stupid, and they know they can do it because our only recourse is to not donate at all which they know I don't want to do.

We CAN pay him more. That’s not the issue.

Or BO could be like GP and retire after 15 yrs or so

That’s what Arkansas did. That’s what Tennessee did. Hell, Nebraska did it this year.

Then obviously BO will have earned his money during that time. Has the concept of "earning" rewards escaped America?

What’s your issue with an extension then?

Nubs boosters are so stupid, they did it TWICE, back to back. Gonna pay 3 coaches for 3 years.

For most yes but in the world of sports it's mitigating the risk of losing a coach that maybe worth keeping so you give them a little raise (subjective I know) and more years. IF it doesn't work out, fire 'em

Problem is when you fire them, you still owe them the money. I have to "earn" the money I donate. Giving an extension at this point doesn't seem like good stewardship of that money.

So are going to go Tennessee crazy when it’s announced that BO gets an extension and raise next week?

Because that’s happening
