It’s almost like revenue, budget, national brand, and recruiting footprint effects everything.

Ogeron went 10-25 at Ole Miss. somehow he’s a great coach 10 years later.
You got to see that Ole Miss at that time was bad. Also he learned a lot at USC! One of top program around. That is why I wanted guys at top program if possible. Current winning programs at top schools is what Greg Schiano coached at and now wants to build better facilities at Rutgers in order to attracts better recruits and to keep top recruits in state from going elsewhere. But he is a defensive coach. I prefer an offensive coach. Got to be careful not to get someone not that well known. Going cheap may kill the program in a few years. Got to make sure get someone that can make Mizzou competitive and great on offense.

That’s my theory on the path Odom takes. I still think he will get another chance in 5-10 years and be successful

The man is a walking embodiment of the Peter Principle.

It’s not that as much as he just can’t lead men.

That’s not a serious response and you should feel bad.

For taking your money in this bet. No I won’t feel sorry.
Remember when Eberflus left and Mizzou fans thought he was a terrible coach? He’s going to be a NFL HC soon. Sometimes it’s too much too soon for young coaches

Yes, that’s true.
And if every assistant coach didn’t try to run away from Odom, you might have an argument.

He hasn’t lost that many assistants.
3 went to bigger programs for more money then there’s Elarbe. Huepel was hired as a HC.
That’s it. It’s also normal for coaches to replace at least 1-2 assistants per year, unless that HC is named Pinkel.

I wanted Odom to succeed. I live half the year in Oklahoma and I know quite a few people that know his family in the Pauls Valley and Ada area. No one was rooting for him more than I. However it was clear that he can't manage assistants or players. If you can't do that, your ceiling is coordinator.

He couldn’t do it right now at 40.
What if he is an analyst for Alabama next season then spends the next 4-5 seasons at a blue blood as an assistant/coordinator before getting another chance when he’s 50?
Maybe he learns some things and is better the second time around. I’m betting on it.

Some things are learned. Managing human interactions isn’t generally a learned skill.

Is that why Haley passed on going to Alabama to stay with Odom this season?
